Thinking on getting a second cat?? Input welcome/

I have one cat (3yr old) I adopted, 2 yrs. ago, she has an attitude, likes laps not hugs.  Seems very bored since she is indoor and wants out especially now that we have significantly downsiized and not many places to go.  When in shelter there were of course a lot of cats, she was not happy.  I am thinking another cat I bring in will be accepted and give her company.  Maybe I'm wrong? Thoughts....

@C in MA when we had cats we always had two. They always got along. I would get a younger cat,might be more acceptable to your cat.  Good luck and I hope you do rescue a sweet kitty.

@C in MA  I think its great that you want to rescue another sweet kitty cat.  I have a 12 year old diva cat that I rescued when she was about 5 years old.  I also had a 17 year old calico that went to Rainbow Bridge last year.  My 12 year old Lily, was an only cat after that.  I adopted a cat this past July from the shelter.  She is 7 years old and a very sweet cat.  In the begininng they did not get along at all.  My new cat, Sophie, was curious about Lily, but Lily, being the diva she is, wanted no part of this new cat.  However, after a few spats, hissing, chasing and growling at eachother, after about 3 months they are now civil to each other.  Not best friends but civil.  I choose an older cat because they tend to be overlooked sometimes, but any age cat needs a home too.  The other day I came home from work and both of them were sleeping on my bed next to eachother.  Whatever cat you decide to adopt and bring home to your other cat, just give them time to warm up to eachother.  It may take a while so be patient.  Its worth saving an animals life.  Good Luck to you and your cats!
