beastie- What a blessing that you have that memory from your mother.  It had to be difficult to go through that. It is great that you put that card with her.

Thank you so much, my dear friend.

At first I was going to keep the card but on the day of her funeral I decided that I wanted Mom to have it and in my heart I truly do believe that she was aware of my final loving gesture to her.

beastie- We normally put things that have special meaning into the casket with loved ones. If you decide to let other family members know you can or you keep it to yourself. I remembe rthe year anniversary of  one funeral we got together to break bread and we started talking  about what we had put in the casket. It was so fun to hear what everyone chose and the meaning behind it.

News bulletin

There has been an addition to my home. I lost my sweet Schatzie about two months ago. Liebchen has been  lost without her partner. I have also been lost!. Well two months ago a dog was found roaming on a four lane highway. The good samaritan chased her and she ran and ran and ran. He did not give up. It took a few miles and changing roads but he finally caught the dog. She was smelly and flea infested. They went door to door and did not find an owner. They took her to a kennel and the people felt bad for this pitiful dog. They took her in and ran ads as well as contacted vets. Nobody came forward for the little dog. My vet called me and told me about the dog. She said that everyone thought she reminded them of Schatzie with her behavior.

Well I got her to foster to see if she woukd work with Liebchen. As a foster failure I am introducing you  to the newest member of the household,,,,Greta. She came to us with the name of Lucy and woukd not respond so we went through the list of names. When we called her Greta she seemed interested. She is a little dachshund with a nose for trash. I wonder how long she was on her own. She moved in on day one with no intention of leaving. Greta has the meaning of little pearl. Well she is the little pearl that was found in the rough oyster shell! It took several people to save her. The doctor that chased her and infested his car with fleas to save her, the kennel that took in another dog they did not need and the person that took a chance and fostered her. I look at her each day and realize how lucky she is.

I somehow think that Schatzie is sending her messages. The first morning she was with us she charged in the den and dove through the newspaper to demand laptime and attention. While scrambling to save what was left of the paper she leaned over and helped herself to a cup of coffee. Schatzie did this often to us.

Liebchen seems happier to have a buddy around.

Congratulations on your new arrival...Greta!!!

I think that not only is Schatzie sending her messages......but that she also had a paw in making sure that Greta wound up with in the loving forever home that she so deserved to have...yours!

Re: THE PET CHAT CORNER AUG. 24-AUG. 30

Doxie~

Thank you for sharing your story with all of us.

Sounds like you and your new precious pearl Greta are equally blessed to be together.  Glad to hear that Liebchen and Greta are blending together so well!

I was in Petsmart yesterday and someone had 3 dachshund puppies in their cart.  What an adorable sight!  They were black with the brown markings.

Best wishes with your new gem Greta!

Enjoy!
