The Syracuse zoo announced the birth of twin male elephant babies. If you live in the area they can be seen from 11-11:30 and 2-2:30 daily. Only 1% of elephant births are twins. The survival rate for twins is not that good. The second born was weak, but zoo staff have given him the care he needed.

I am so envious of any of you who get to see them. Please come back here and tell us how large they actually appear to be. I remember their birth weight was about 250 lbs. I cannot relate that to an actual size. (I can't order from catalogs or online without making a mistake either.)

Oh, how sweet. I hope they are strong enough to both make it and that they will be healthy. They appear fragile and rather small. I can see why they would be at high risk.

This is a great photo. The babies look like they are keeping pace with their mom. I cannot for the life of me determine their size when they are beside their giant mother. I would love to go to Syracuse tomorrow and see them in person. I know they are larger than they seem to be. I am glad to see them so strong and flourishing.

Well, it will be nerve wracking for quite a while. We lost two young elephants unexpectedly in 2020 from EEHV, the deadly elephant herpes strain.

Are you there? Oh, wow! What an experience! I hope that they stay safe and strong.
