from Rescue Wildlife FB page
This is Alf, who was found in wombat mum’s pouch last Wednesday morning in Penrose. Local residents checked the pouch and saved this little guys life.
He is doing very well now after being settled in and a little friend is already on its way to join him.
(I personally think that unfurred wombat joeys have a similarity to “Shrek”. )
Once both joeys have reached a certain age and development they will be passed on to a lovely new carer who is slowly getting ready to build the appropriate accommodations to continue their rehabilitation until release. They will be in care for over one and a half years.
We are authorised to care for native wildlife through Wildlife Rescue South Coast and work closely with Wires Illawarra and Wingecarribee.
Many thanks to both for their help and team spirits.

@darkhomespun Innocense at its best, how sweet. The little rolls on the belly and pink feet will just draw you in. It would be a pleasure to raise such a baby!

If in its mother's pouch, why did it need "saving?"

Wombats have very scary looking claws they use for digging. That photo doesn't show them b/c they are scary looking.
