Has anyone seen this program?  It's on late in my area so I've only caught it a few times, but it's always heartwarming, not to mention educational, whether you are part of the rescue community or simply an adopter.  Not that there is anything "simply" about adopting since it's so rewarding for all concerned.

The episode I saw last night featured the Wings of Rescue volunteer pilots.  Nine small planes were flown, at the pilots' own expense, from LA to Idaho.  It costs each pilot about $2500 to $5000 per flight.  Such wonderful dedication and love shown by all these folks -- as well as all the volunteers on the ground.  All the dogs were adopted within two weeks of arriving at the Idaho shelter.  (They were flown due to too many dogs in LA vs. not enough in Idaho.)

Also featured was a woman who is a dog behavior expert.  She helps shelters all around the country set up supervised outdoor play for dogs in a shelter.  She does it so carefully, and with so much understanding of what dogs need.  Everyone, even those skeptical at first, found that the dogs benefit so much that their potential for adoption is increased greatly.

I am not sure how these shows are aired and how many episodes there are.  This one was new in October and I've read there will be another new one filmed for February.  But there are plenty of repeats from time to time.   The shelterme.tv site has a feature where you can insert your zip code and find out when the shows are being aired.

Re: Shelter Me program on PBS

I belong to three animal rescue groups. This series if fabulous. Really opens your eyes to what rescue entails. Pilots and Paws is another great group.
