Purina has bought out Merrick

Purina bought out Merrick in July.  Link below says no changes in the Merrick line will be made, but I suspect eventually the "new, improved" version of Merrick will come out.  I'm disappointed and will be switching foods eventually.

Re: Purina has bought out Merrick

@Another new name Sue - Thanks for sharing this.  I used to feed my three cats on Royal Canin (the only cat food brand not involved in all the nasty mess several years ago).

Then I switched to Merrick when one of my cats couldn't tolerate Royal Canin.  When Merrick changed their line a few years back to the "new and improved", my cats started having trouble with the dry food.  So I started buying Halo.

I still buy Merrick canned food (amongst others), but it's not their favorite anymore.

I suspect you're right that, no matter what they say, just like with every other company takeover, things will definitely change.

Re: Purina has bought out Merrick

(I had a whole reply typed and then it requred my sign in and POOF it was gone.  Here's my second attempt.)

I have had such good luck with this brand and I am so worried with this news.  I was giving my dog another high quality brand a few years ago and of course they changed the formula which gave her major digestive issues.

I will keep my current bag so I can compare ingredients down the line.  Really, Purina???  Ugh!!!

That is what buyout corporations always say at first in a buyout...Purina will turn it into profit by buying China junk additives to make it with like they do with all their bad junky unhealthy pet food. Buyer Beware.

Re: Purina has bought out Merrick

In the pet store I learned about this when the Merrick treats were marked down, and when I asked why, they told me the bad news.  They won't continue carrying Merrick at all.

Even if the ingredients don't change, the sources might.  I don't mind Canada or Australia ingredients, but Asia...no.

I'm looking at Canidae or Orijen but will stop at the pet store where they have someone who can make a recommendation.  These foods are fairly expensive, but feeding a terrier makes it more affordable.  Feeding a big dog these premium foods would be more costly, obviously.

I use Orijen and like the product.  Fromm is another very good brand.  They have a bigger variety of flavors also.  Place I go has frequent buyer programs (most premium food companies participate) for a free bag.

FYI for any Fromm users or potential users go to the website and sign up for coupons, thier Black Friday coupon is usually for a free 5 lb bag of food.

Someday, when scientists discover the center of the Universe....some people will be disappointed it is not them.
