Precious dog-toy relationship

[ Edited ]

all dogs are adorably enthusiastic, but Labs are infinitely exuberant  8)

Mind the trunk! Adorable Lab refuses to go anywhere without her best friend - a giant $12 cuddly elephant

  • Piper, a chocolate Labrador from North Dakota, is inseparable from Elephant
  • Owner Alex Naseth says Piper fell in love as soon as he brought the toy home
  • Video of Piper refusing to get into the car without Elephant has gone viral

Most dog owners know the difficulty of trying to separate their pet from its favourite toy.

But this particular owner has an even greater challenge as their dog Piper refuses to go anywhere without her best friend, a giant cuddly elephant.

Piper, a chocolate Labrador, previously shredded all her other toys before falling in love with Elephant as soon as owner Alex Naseth from North Dakota brought the $12 toy home from Aldi two weeks ago.

Since then, the two-year-old dog has taken the oversized toy everywhere with her despite repeatedly tripping over it due to its sheer size.

Dinner for two: Alex Naseth from North Dakota only bought Elephant home two weeks ago but already his dog Piper is in love with the cuddly toy

Best friends: Piper constantly trips over Elephant because of its size but that doesn't stop her taking it with her everywhere she goes

CCTV even shows Piper refusing to get in the car for a shopping trip without her companion, eventually leaping through the open boot dragging Elephant by the mouth.

The video of Piper's antics went viral on social media, racking up almost 100,000 upvotes on Reddit.

Student Alex, from Fargo, said: 'This is a new toy and because it's so large she seems to treat it like a buddy instead of shredding it like her other toys.

'She seemed to fall in love with Elephant from the second I brought it home for her and now insists on taking it everywhere with her.

'I think it's hilarious how she carries it around, because it's so big she has trouble not tripping over it constantly.'

The video shows Piper waiting by the car in the snow with Elephant in her mouth, excitedly throwing her toy from side to side.

Alex said: 'It might look a bit silly walking around with your dog carrying an elephant but if it makes her happy then so be it'

As soon as the boot opens, she leaps through the gap with the teddy in her mouth, just fitting through the space with the giant toy.

Alex said: 'Piper and I were going to the store and because she's a really good girl I don't use a leash so I called her name and she came down the stairs with her toy like usual.

'There's not much I can do to stop her, she loves it and doesn't want to go anywhere without it.

'It might look a bit silly walking around with your dog carrying that but if it makes her happy then so be it.

'Everyone I showed the video to thought it was very funny as Piper has an extravagant personality.'

@feline groovy -

What a great story!

My loveable over 100 lb granddog chewed into pieces everything-the couch, my son's dresser,shoes every kong and toy

except his big green stuffed frog.

That he slept with and never chewed any part of it.Heart

@feline groovy , great story!  The elephant is so big!

My chocolate Lab has a mushroom shaped pillow that she has had since she was first brought home at 8 weeks.  She is now almost 12 years old.  She takes the pillow everywhere in the house, sleeps with it, lays her head on it while she is in her dog bed.  That pillow has been washed and mended many times.  When I saw how attached she was, I went out and bought another for her before they sold out.  No need, she takes such good care of it, that it is still going.

She has never been destructive with her toys or any other household items.  LM

@feline groovy

I watched the video and the excitement and happiness was evident in Piper’s tail wagging. Such a sweet dog.

Aww, @Lilysmom , bless her heart, it seems to give her great comfort and peace.  And thanks to her smart mama, she has a backup buddy just in case.   Such an endearing girl!  8)
