He's doing better since the addition of another 1/2 pill of one of his pain meds, the excessive drooling has stopped.

He's still limping in his rear end, especially after he's been laying down for awhile.

Still praying for a cancellation at the specialist to maybe get him in before 2/16.

We really hate that he isn't able to be nearly as active as he's always been, twice a day 3 mile walks through the nature preserve.

Now we only walk him to the end of our block and back occasionally, just because he seems to really miss it.

He also loves to go everywhere his Dad goes, but we can tell it's hard and painful for him to jump up into his truck or my SUV.

We want to limit his pain and hopefully not make anything any worse, till we know what we're dealing with.

You're a sweetheart for asking, we appreciate the good thoughts!

You probably know this, but what about a dog ramp to get Kingston into the truck/car more easily?  We had a dog that developed severe arthritis in the spine and this helped enormously. That way he could take his beloved road trips.

Hoping you can get into see the specialist earlier--praying for your pup!

We had ramps for our last 2 as they grew old and developed severe arthritis.

We're truly praying that something can be done medically to restore his ability to walk pain free again.

Since he's only 5-6 years old severe arthritis is not as likely according to the specialist.

Also, if necessary, a wheelchair for his rear legs are an option, so that he can enjoy his walks again.

A dog can have bad arthritis young, just like a person can (we've had this happen-a case of polyarthritis). One of ours also developed, basically, a slipped disc and had surgery--and she recovered completely! I wanted something medical but this worked extremely well. Of course I aged a few years on her surgery date.

As a substitute for the ramp, we once bought stairs to get into the car...then the incline wasn't as steep. A thought.

Praying for your Kingston and thinking positive! I know how hard it is when you face these unknowns.

I agree, arthritis can certainly affect younger pets.

Because both rear legs and hips seem to be affected (his back feet turn inward when he tries to walk and his hips 'sway'), we're leaning towards maybe hip dysplasia, which is common in his breed, as well as other large breeds.
