We were wondering where many of the Poodles are found?  Our Cotter (In avatar) (min. size) passed away just 4 yrs. ago from CA at 15 and our other (toy) Boozer passed in May because of a stroke at17.  Saw the 2 on Alberti & Rachel Holiday Favorite show on 11/17/21. Sure brings back memories!  We have been searching the shelters around Eastern NE but can't get there fast enough before they are adopted!

You could try petfinder.com to see any poodles listed in rescues and shelters in your area. Choose a 100 mile or more search to see the most listings.  Besides the breed, you can filter your search by gender if that matters.

DD and my stepmother had a standard black poodle from the time I was 15 until I was married 5 years.  They need grooming but had no dog odor.

I just prefer fur that is smooth.

One of my all-time favorite dogs was a miniature poodle.  You can't beat them for brains and personality plus plus no shedding all over the house.

You might know some of the following, but I don't know what you know, so here goes.

Poodle Rescues associated with Poodle Clubs often rescue Poodles from shelters, one of the reasons they are difficult to find.   Look up the  American Poodle Club for clubs that have rescues.  They will email a list to you.

You can also purchase one from a Poodle show breeder.  Last time I looked Standards weren't as popular as toys, if interested, not because they aren't healthy and special.  It seems everyone wants a toy now.  You can also locate breeders near you from the American Poodle Club.

Be prepared for some ridiculous requirements from some of the Poodle rescues, but you can try.  Sometimes, it's easier to purchase from a show breeder as long as you owned a Poodle previously.  They won't sell to anyone who has not had one.  There's a lot of competition, though, if you're looking for a toy.

You can go to AKC Marketplace to locate breeders there, as well.

Keep in mind health of the dogs before you buy.  Inherited diseases.  A rescue would not know.  Some show breeders do testing.

Have you search for "poodle rescue" in your area?  Sometimes they'll put them into a small dog rescue.  My dad rescued a poodle fro lapdog Rescue.

@Kachina624  Agreed. My dog growing up was a toy poodle, Pepe (named before we got him, but he had so many nicknames too, and came to all of them)...anyway, you are exactly right..smart, funny (once heard them referred to as "born clown"...so true) and no shedding is a great plus! Some are very hyper, jittery and hard to hold, but ours was "cuddly"...not too nervous all the time. Definitely could be a barker though, lol. He lived to be almost 14 years. I'm in a condo with no dogs now, but if I ever got another dog I'd love another poodle.

Glad to see this thread and interest in this pure breed. I felt like in recent years, all I saw was "designer" breeds mixing with poodles...I don't often see a pure poodle. Glad to see people are still interested in them and they still exist!

We have tried most of the Rescue places, with our app. being accepted, but they never get back to us--there are so many people wanting the smaller dogs!
