Thanks @NickNack
I went to their site and plugged in my info. I think it was $40-ish a month with a $700 deductible. Hmmm, I'll have to think about that. Pup is 8, basically healthy except for occasional tummy trouble and luxating patella. Pure pred, not a mix.

Sadie and Molly are insured by Natuonwide Pet Insurance (no joke). Their predecessor, Sophie the beagle, was also insured by the same company.
Sophie developed cancer practically overnight and the vet bills for testing, specialistists, etc. were astronomical for the few days until the ultimate big decision had to be made...Rainbow Bridge.
Before Sophie got sick, I thought pet insurance was a waste of money every time we paid a premium. I don’t know what we would have done if not able to know we could give our Sophie every last chance to stay with us. 😢

Nationwide Pet Insurance. I pay $31 monthy for $7500 worth of coverage (annually) with 90% reimbursment rate, a $250 deductable and 10% co-pay. I did consider Healthy Paws but felt the low 60% reimbursement rate and $750 deductible even for unlimited amount of coverage did not suit my budget.

I don't know how long ago you lost your beloved Sophie, but I am sorry for your loss. My dog, Tandi, will be gone 8 years in Feb. She passed from cancer, and I still tear up when I think about her. ❤🐶

@Another new name Sue I think that's a good price for an 8 year old dog. I'm sure you know that the luxating patellas would not be covered with any insurance company. I know it's a hard decision. I just decided after spending so much on my last dog that didn't have it that I was going to always have pet insurance in the future.

You can choose your deductible and reimbursement rate with Healthy Paws. I have Healthy Paws with 90% reimbursement and $100 deductible. I think you could easily reach a set amount of coverage very quickly. For me, I wouldn't want anything that wasn't unlimited coverage.

@KitTkat Sorry for you the loss of your Tandi.
When you love dogs, each one stays in your heart forever, but always room for others. They never take the place of the dog that went before, but can take you into their hearts and the love story continues.
We lost Sophie about 15 yrs. ago at the age of 13. We called her breeder a week later to see when he would have other litters, but he said it was too soon for us to have another puppy. We needed to grieve a few months & call back.
Before long Sadie (a distant cousin to Sophie) came into our lives....smoothe, easy going and a joy to train, so why not add to our beagle family? Back to the breeder for Molly. Well, she was full of pee and vinegar! I’ve had beagles all my life, trained them, knew every trick, read every book on beagle training, but Molly was a handful.
Sadie was 8, but had a world of patience as Molly refused to be crate trained, house trained, wouldn’t walk on leash, barked incessantly and chewed up most of the upholsterd furniture in the family room.
At my wit’s end, Molly went to Doggy Boot Camp. Sanford NC has a “sleep away doggy training center”...3 month program. They train shepherds to be police dogs (but do take other breeds). Certainly they could train Good Golly Miss Molly, her AKC name.
When we went to pick her up, we were given an hour video of Molly’s training classes, the commands used, body language to continue and tones of voice that worked. The woman at the front desk carried Molly out to us, while kissing her snout & scartching those famous hound ears. Surely they are loved, cuddled... and trained.
Now Molly’s 5 & Sadie almost 13. Buddies and “sisters”. Sadie has Cushing and getting a bit slower standing up & has to stretch a little before getting moving. Molly’s by her side, sniffing her to “check her health”, accompanies her out the dog door and down her new ramp.
They’re so close that Molly has started to go to Doggy Daycare twice a week to separate her a little from Sadie...preparation for the inevitable...if any of us can be prepared.
Everyone thought we were nuts to be empty nesters and want to have the responsibility of 2 dogs. Well, I can’t imagine life without that unconditional love and one or the other beagles cuddled on my feet while I read.
Life is good. 😍

@NickNack I had no idea the lux patella would not be covered! No plans for that anyway, it’s mild and from what I’ve read it’s not a surgery we’d want. I need to read the small print.

@Another new name Sue It's a pre-existing condition. No pet insurance companies cover pre-existing conditions. It's not really in the fine print. They're up front about it. I hope there won't be a need for the surgery.
