Our Fading Yellow Lab passed today

Some time ago I had posted about our yellow lab.  After such a difficult

time, my husband and I made that difficult decision.  Our wonderful

vet stayed with us and him for the whole time.  He slipped away

peacefully, and his almost fifteen years are now memories.

Our vet has been with us since puppyhood, and we are so thankful

for this wonderful doctor.

Our dog had been a very active boy--a star frisbee player.  A lover of the

beach and long walks.  But almost two years ago he was diagnosed with

diabetes and Cushings disease.  We have been nursing him ever since,

and grateful for each day.

Lately his world had narrowed to only our lower level and our driveway.  He

had to go outside 4-5 times during the night.  We couldn't get him to walk

on the grass or dirt or venture beyond those limited places.  With limited vision

and very little hearing, his quality of life was poor.

We are sad, but we are turning this around to celebrate a very wonderful dog

and his fun, active, adventurous life.

As our vet told us, for 100,000 years these wonderful animals have been our

dearest companions.

Thank you, pet lovers, for listening.

My heart is sad for you for losing your baby. It sounds like he had such a wonderful and long life. May your memories one day bring you more laughter and joy than tears. I will tell my boys to greet him at the Rainbow bridge with nuzzles, licks, wagging tails and a fresh new frisbee to play with on the beach.

Susan, we had to say goodbye the same way for our beloved red Lab-mix Molly.  She was almost 16 !  What a wonderful life she had!  But she couldn't breathe well and was restless and wanted inside, then wanted outside, she just couldn't get comfortable.

How I cried and how I grieved!  My heart was broken!  This sounds odd, but she was my constant companion and friend!

So I know exactly how you feel.  But celebrating their lives is all we can do now.

Please know that there are very many others of us who feel your pain and are sharing your loss!   Until we meet them again....
