@threecees Diamonds have never given me a wet kiss when my heart was breaking or I was in the midst of shedding tears. I have actually quit wearing my diamond rings as they are too small in size anyway. I am at least 30 pounds heavier than when I got married so they no longer fit to clarify.

I never tried tracing it, but I bet that "diamonds are a girl's best friend" line came from either an old advertising campaign or an old movie.

Marilyn Monroe sang a song called "Diamonds are a girls best friend" in a movie, so I know it's a song at least. Gershwin? Not sure.
