If you're going to be treating your dog, you'll want to make sure the treats are good for their health. Some dog treats boast about their excellent organic ingredients, but they can be very expensive. So, why not make your own? These no-bake puppy treats have just 5 ingredients - all of which are good for your pup.
Course: Appetizers/Snacks
Cuisine: American
Keyword: Dog Treats
Servings: 24 bites

Author: Meredith Laurence
Ingredients
  • cup rolled oats
  • ½ cup natural organic peanut butter
  • ¼ cup wheat bran
  • 6 tablespoons unsweetened applesauce
  • 2 carrots
Instructions
  1. Combine the rolled oats, peanut butter, wheat bran and applesauce in a bowl until well mixed.
  2. Slice the carrots into twenty-four, ½-inch slices.
  3. Scoop a heaping tablespoon of the peanut butter mixture into your hand and roll it into a ball. Push a slice of carrot into the middle of the ball and shape the dough into a patty around the carrot. (If you prefer smaller bites for your pup, cut the carrots in half or slice baby-cut carrots and portion a smaller amount of the dough around the carrot.) Repeat with the remaining ingredients. You should be able to make about 24 bites.
  4. Store the bites in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or keep them in an airtight container in the freezer for a month or two. Feed to you happy pup frozen or at room temperature.

@KingstonsMom   Thanks for the recipe, and I am sure Toby would thank you as well!  Tell Kingston hi and give him a big hug from his southern friends in Mississippi!

@KingstonsMom

Thanks for posting this. I'm going to give them a try. My girl just finished up a recipe I got from a Petsmart email made with Cheerios that didn't turn out too well. They were baked in cupcake tins and were supposed to get firm enough to handle. I'm thinking I added double the amount of oil because mine were a mushy mess.

I made the peanut in my Vitamix and didn't want to waste it so I put the stuff in an airtight container and added a small amount to her dinner each evening. She seemed to love it but I know I did something wrong with that recipe, lol.

I'm not giving up though and am going to give these a try. Thanks again. Smiley Happy
