@MalteseMomma @Sammycat1 Ava is home from her appointment with the Internal Medicine Vet. I left her this morning for the endoscopy. The Vet called me and said that she scanned her before doing the endoscopy, and her stomach wall had greatly improved in the past week. She thought it was enlarged because of all her throwing up. That was great news.
She did not want to do the endoscopy today, especially since she's a bulldog at greater risk from anesthesia. She didn't think it was necessary at this time.
She also has a skin infection, which I didn't realize. She said the skin infection and her gastrointestinal problems could be a food allergy. She sent her home with Hill's Z/D canned and dry to try for 4 - 6 weeks. I gave her a little bit mixed in with the I/D she's been eating, and she did eat it. She also wants me to use an antibacterial shampoo on her once a week until her skin clears up.
I told the Vet that I wanted to try a limited ingredient diet before a hydrolyzed diet because I didn't want her to stay on a prescription diet forever. I thought she understood, but it sounds like z/d is hydrolyzed protein. I'll see how she does on it.

I'm glad her stomach calmed down.
There's a prescription diet specifically for skin AND food issues, called d/d. It's the only one Frankie can tolerate, FYI.

@Sammycat1 Thank you. I'll read about the D/D. On the Z/D canned it says it's for skin and food issues. It's a hydrolyzed diet.

I think the difference between them is that d/d works a little better in pets with diarrhea issues--it is not hydrolyzed like z/d, which ironically can cause diarrhea! Go figure.
Frankie and one dog we had started on the hydrolyzed, but within several months, it caused/protracted diarrhea. Our vet also said that some of his sensitive dogs and cats also reacted poorly to the hydrolyzed diets and ended up with prolonged diarrhea.
You're sure to get something that will work for her. Sounds like it will just take some experimenting.

@Sammycat1 The Vet did mention D/D when she was talking about what we could try. I'll just be happy to find something that agrees with her for the long-term.

@NickNack I know. I've walked 10,000 miles in these shoes. You will find something!

You know, at first, these things got me down and sometimes still do. But I'm grateful that I've learned a lot from our special needs pets over the years (including that Schmoo Cat) and that we can help those who have complicated needs feel better. Frankie is a gift and she, like Schmoo and all the others, have challenged me to be a better self.

I’m glad Ava is doing better @NickNack I hope she continues to do well with her tummy and skin. ❤️
