That pooch would already be in my parent's house as their next pup....for real.

@goldensrbest   No leash law where you live?  Or a law forbidding dogs from running around loose?

I hope nothing happens to the dog because of the irresponsible owner.

In my area it is illegal to take a dog that you find.  You are required to turn the dog in to the county kennel.  Do people always do that?  No.

Aunt Ko, while I agree with your sentiment, that would be hard to do if the dog 'lives' across the street.

It's illegal to 'take' someone's animal, even if it's with the best of intentions for the pet's welfare.

The most that can be done is to alert animal authorities that the owner allows it to roam and cross roads/highways etc.

Hi @KingstonsMom

Thanks for the support with a bit of a warning.  I get it - not legal, however 'ethical' it may be...

In truth, I would not hesitate to do as I said, legal or not.

My sole concern would be for the dog....that obviously the owner does not share the same concern over.

I own my next door neighbor's cat.  My beloved Shadow.

Not only are we next door - we're rowhomes, so we are attached.

They treated him AWFUL, I took him off the alley and into my home. and then asked them IF I could keep him.

They hadn't even noticed 'he wasn't around in days'.

He's 12 now - spoiled beyond reason and loved to distraction. YAY HIM!

@KingstonsMom

Thank you for understanding my illegal but loving mindset.

I appreciate it, as nutty as I am over animals, I know I coudn't stop myself.
