I have a senior cat as well-- she is almost eighteen, and I am monitoring her a lot.
I know cats can develop kidney problems, diabetes, hyperthyroidism and even cancer as they age--been there, done all of the above, sadly.
Unfortunately, some treatments can be extemely costly, and will not necessarily prolong the cat's life. Getting an expert opinion is critical--I go above and beyond my vet and visit a specialist as needed.
Yes, it is hard to see our pet babies feel unwell, but I agree with others that giving them a wonderful life for all of these years is a real achievement.
Best wishes with the vet appointment.

My best wishes and blessing to you and your dear Fred. He is in our hearts.
ETA Fred is simply gorgeous. What a handsome guy!

@We rescue cats - I'm sorry Fred doesn't seem to be doing well. I will echo what you said @FancyPhillyshopper.
I'll be waiting to see what your veterinarian says tomorrow. In the meantime if you have any general questions, DH is home and I'll be happy to ask him.
I will say a prayer for Fred and for you and the rest of Fred's human and feline family. (((HUGS)))

Thank you all for your good thoughts, we sure do appreciate them. Fred ate a bit more today so that made me feel a bit better, and he is in the same room with us so he isn't hiding or isolating. I'm being overly cautious I guess, we've lost 3 cats since Christmas, one was 26 years old but 2 of them were too young (8 and 5) but cancer took them.
Thank you again, fingers are crossed!

I just said a prayer for him. I hope it is something that can be cleared up quickly and painlessly.
What a beautiful cat!!

I hope it's nothing serious. Please post the results of your vet visit. You and Fred hit the jackpot when you found each other.

The vet just called to change his appt to this afternoon, she had an emergency arrive this morningand the doctor is in surgery. Fred came to the kitchen for breakfast this morning so apparently he's feeling a bit better, and if I were the one with the emergency I would appreciate it. So we're going in this afternoon.
