Willow has recently decided to bark after she is put into her crate at night. She has always slept in her crate and does not resist going into it.
About 10 minutes after being put to bed, she starts barking. She's been outside. She's not hungry. Her bedding is clean. She has her favorite toys with her. She will bark 30-45 minutes before she settles.
Any suggestions? TIA

She most likely wants to be near you, is there a reason she can't sleep in a bed near you?

I would contact your vet, sounds like maybe she's not feeling well

Can she sleep in a bed in your room?

Yes, it seems as though sweet Willow wants to be with you...
Perhaps something is bothering her or as others have said, she isn't feeling well.
Would you considerr bringing her in your bed? Our dogs have always slept with us and it's been comforting to all of us.
Please keep us posted.

As long as she is healthy and acting normally outside of bedtime I suspect that, as others have stated, she wants to be with you.
The only effective way I know of dealing with this if you want her to remain crated for the night is to grin and bear it until she teaches herself that her barking will not do any good and she stops on her own.
How old is Willow?
Has anything happened at night while she was crated prior to the barking starting that could have frightened her--loud noise, severe thunderstorm overhead, disruption of routine, etc.?
That would be the second most logical explanation.

She will be 3 next month and our 3-year gotcha day is early January. She's always slept in her crate, first with the crate in our room, then with crate in the living room. No animals on our cameras. Crate is covered. PapaWick is worried about letting her sleep with us as she the smallest puppy we've ever had (7 pounds).
In her almost 3 years with us, it has never been a problem. The barking started in August. We really don't think it is separation anxiety. Her barking is only after going into the crate for the night.

Tell Papa Wick Willow will be ok sleeping with you. I have a 5 pound girl and she is just fine sleeping with us. They will always move elsewhere on the bed if they get cramped.
She definitely is telling you something. Know you give her everything in the world but maybe she is feeling the need to be with you at night.
