Re: Need help with my kitty, need suggestions

I've owned persian/himalayans all of my life. To my knowledge, there are no holistic or natural remedies that are going to help with kidney disease other than sub-q fluids and prescription foods.  Probiotics should help with the runny stool, but I wouldn't waste too much time on other methods of healing.  If you don't feel confident in your own vet, go to a specialist or a teaching hospital in your area for a second opinion.

Hi, I have a persian kitty who is 9 years old. We love her dearly. She hadnt been eating so well recently. I thought it was because I introduced a new food to her but i was giving her that just a small amount w her usual wet food. Yesterday at the vet we found that she is stage 2 with polycystic kidney disease. We had her blood work done in Nov last year and everything looked fine, this time the numbers are a little different. I am beyond heartbroken and would like to do whatever we can to slow it down. The vet gave her some fluids, vitamin b12 shot and cerenia shot and some tablets for us to give her every 24 hrs for nausea. We're taking her again next week for another blood work. I would love to know if youve had any experience with this or have you ever tried any supplements to help. Ive looked up a few natural supplements that had great reviews but my vet didnt know anything about them or if they would help. Id really like to try some natural remedies. I would really really appreciate any advice that you have. Please let me know if you're familiar with Pet well being kidney support gold, Amin Avast or any others. Id really love some help.

A woman that runs a cat rescue and works closely with her vet had a cat in kidney failure and did everything she could to slow it down. The cat was expected to live a few months at the age of 9 when he was trapped and brought in and lived until he was 12.

If you would like the list of meds she gave him to talk over with your vet I would be happy to list them.

@luvmyteddy4,  are you by chance referring to Grandpa Mason Heart?  If so and OP accepts your offer please do not forget to relate how "labor intensive" and the daily time commitment was.

Not everyone is willing or able to devote that much time and energy to care and I would not like to see OP think medication alone will be the answer.

Hi Marp, I was but she hasn't come back. I made a list the other day for myself really because 25 years ago we didn't have all these options and my cat did live to 17, diagnosed at 15 but they only had kd food and sub fluids at that time. It's good to know there are options now to discuss with your vet.
