declawing is archaic....more suffering/pain inflicted on our precious animals
a humane decision that is long overdue

When we were in Rome maybe 10? years ago, there were stray cats everywhere. We went into a cat protection shelter/store and were told that it was against local government to fix the cats. It had to do with the Italian "machoism."
I just worry about Government over reach. NY seems to lead the charge on that one.
I live in New York State and proudly
signed countless petitions that went
to my local reps in Albany as well
as to Governor C.'s office pleading
with them to make this a law and
to end this vile, disgusting, cruel and
unforgivable act of mutilation on innocent
cats and kittens.
I am beyond elated that it is now the law!
Hopefully the other 49 states will
soon follow because sadly the welfare
of all animals in the USA is at the
bottom of many lawmakers' lists
..especially those in Washington D.C.!
In regards to what you were told
in Rome,"fixing" meant spaying and
neutering...not declawing.
Anyone who won't adopt a cat unless
it's been declawed doesn't deserve to
own a pet!

Yes, I know that "fixing" meant spaying and neutering. That is why there were/are sooooooooo many stray cats in Rome at the time anyway. They were becoming a real problem because there were so many.
I won't agree with you that "anyone who won't adopt a cat unless it's been declawed doesn't deserve to own a pet". If you change "pet" to "cat", well then maybe.
Now if the state of New York passed laws to protect all mammals who can not speak for themselves, then I will really be impressed.

Hello~
How wonderful to hear of this one first state, NYC, having VICTORY in exerting this great force brought through, with the efforts of Governor Andrew Cuomo that is so common, 'now', now to have been banned.
---- !!! What a positive piece of news.
-- I had just read this, and it IS very true A VICTORY for posting this for those who may not have read.
I have known for a very long time
this was nothing but bad treatment and a cruel procedure,
post procedure.
I am very happy to know that I was a key catalyst in having the votes brought forth for two other treatments that would be off of the subject that was discussed here often.
At a later date-soon-I hope to begin a topic on these.
Thank YOU so much for revealing this news. - YES!
