My DD & SIL just arrived from the vet.  One look and the vet told them that he suspected lymphoma in the eye.  Referred them to specialists - animal opthalmogists for a second opinion.

They will call tomorrow.  This cancer can spread to other organs unless caught in time.

He is one of the gentlest felines I have ever encountered,  Mellow and very low maintenance.  Fill his bowl with kibble and fresh water and he's good to go.  He follows me around like a pup.  My constant companion.  Heartbreaking.
