Our cat Keiko is 11 years old. She was a stray that showed up on our porch one snowy night. She had cheap tastes. She would only eat dry Meow Mix and wet Friskies. During lockdown we could not find Friskies anywhere so we tried feeding her Fancy Feast. She liked it! Fast Forward to 2 1/2 years later, she has decided Fancy Feast is not for her so DH bought a few cans of Friskies and she ate it up. That is all well and good except we have a case of Fancy Feast in the garage. We are going to give her a break from Fancy Feast for awhile then try offering it again to see if she eats it. If not I will donate it to an animal shelter.

Cats are like that. They know what they like and if they don't like the food they'll turn their nose up and walk away. I have two very finicky cats who do the same thing. So far they will eat canned Fancy Feast wet and dry but only certain flavors.

Cats are just endlessly fascinating in their like/dislikes! I had one who would eat any brand of kibble, but only one flavor of canned Fancy Feast...Fish & Shrimp. At one point, that flavor got hard to find. Thankfully, it was more of a "treat"...her main food was kibble, so one can lasted about 3 days. She also loved anything creamy...sour cream, cottage cheese, ice cream. Didn't care for other "people food".
Next cat would eat ANY flavor of Fancy Feast canned, any brand of kibble, and most people food.
Current kitties...girl won't touch any canned cat food, or any kind of real meat, and only eats kibble. But she does like Goldfish Crackers and potato chips! Boy kitty has never had canned food, but likes his kibble. Also likes cheese, Ice cream, turkey, chicken.

This was on a plaque I got for my sister many years ago and it says, " A cat is a cat and that's that". No changing them.

My one cat thinks friskies "shreds" is like crack. She'll eat other things but nothing compares to the shreds.

@ninjawife Your post made me chuckle. My BF's Siberian Husky is fussy........because he's spoiled. The BF plans the meat portion of our meals so there is always leftover for the dog. And he used to buy him shredded cheese for his morning portion of dogfood.
Several times the dog refused his morning portion........so I mentioned that he needed to just put the dog food out and if the snot was hungry, he'd eat. And there are days he does eat and days he doesn't and I don't worry about it. Of course, it may be different for cats.
He always has an appetite for treats.

@cindyNC Our dog gets shredded cheese on both morning & evening portions of kibble. Plus, whenever DH cooks hamburgers, he makes one without any seasoning for the dog!

Well, a cat might like tuna, but if you opened 6 cans of tuna, various brands, they wouldn't like all of them .... the reason is they are different recipes and who knows what makes one version of tuna better than another?
I had a pretty good system for Bogey before covid, and then supply shortages made it very difficult to find his favorites. So, I was feeding him the same thing for dinner every night, for consistency, and different things every morning for breakfast. I needed to expand the assortment of what he would eat.
Bogey eats both wet and dry at both meals. He starts with wet food, then finishes with crunchies. That's his style, and he's sticking to it. Unless he decides to change it.
It hasn't been easy. One thing that we can be grateful for .... even though it can be trying raising our fur babies .... at least we don't have to send them to college! LOL ![]()
