I had a maltese that I got at Humane Society. He was just used for breeding and never had a minute of love until I got him. He would sometimes whimper and cry in his sleep. I would say his name and talk softly to him as not to startle or scare him and then when he woke up, he had such a scared look on his face for a second or two and then when he realized where he was and was loved, he would wag his little tail and fall asleep again. Broke my heart every time I heard and saw that.

I had another rescue from HS and he had schnauzer, border collie and I'm not sure what all in him. The only time he howled was when I watched "The Sound of Music" and they sang the goat herd song where they would yodel. He howled while that song was on, and that was the only time he did it. But sometimes I would sing it just to hear him howl cuz it would crack me up!
