Hi everyone.  I have an 11 year old sheltie named Ginger who has fallen ill recently.  She has been admitted to the hospital and it breaks my heart to say that her organs may be failing.  She refuses to eat anything; we have tried it all.  The vet tried to stimulate her appetite but nothing has helped.  We have been told that sometimes when an animals organs are failing, they lose the desire to eat.  I hate the fact that I even have to think about putting her to sleep; I feel physical pain thinking about not seeing her again.  I keep  remembering when I got her when she was a puppy and I look at pictures and the memories are happy but sad at the same time.  The last thing I want her to do is suffer and her quality of life is important, but I am just not ready to say goodbye.

Kimmy I understand what you are going through.  You provided a loving home for your sweet Ginger.   You need to do what is best for Ginger.  Yes it is hard but your love will see you through.   You and Ginger are in my thoughts and prayers.   Take care.

hello...your post caught my eye since I had a ''Ginger" when I was a child,  only she was a border collie!

So sorry you are going through this terrible experience with your beloved furbaby.  I have been through it several times; it never gets easier.  our dog died suddenly at almost 12 yrs of age due to heart problems and it was a very traumatic time...this was three years ago and I still tear up thinking about her!

We had to put our beloved cat to sleep due to a fatal illness common to felines 2 yrs. and under...that was terrible as well. I thought I would feel guilty but it actually was very peaceful, like he was just going to sleep and we pet him and spoke to him as he drifted off...but walking out of the vets office without him and holding the blanket we brought him in was so heartbreaking!!  I tell you this only so you know that I and so many others have walked this terrible walk and we know how you feel.  unfortunately, sometimes there is no easy way around this when it's time for our sweet little souls to leave us.  It hurts tremendously but with time, you will smile when you think of them instead of cry and if you do still cry, it's less than it was when they first left you.  You will make it through though it will be hard!  Even though the pain is great, the love and devotion I got from each of my beloved furbabies (i can't just call them pets!) was worth going through the pain of losing them.  I could never imagine living my life without having had a  dog or cat in it!

You will know when the time is right to say goodbye and you'll make it through...and always remember we'll see them again on the other side!

X's and O's to you and Ginger!

I can feel how heavy your heart is, I am so sorry for you and your beloved Ginger.

As hard as it is to say "good night" it is harder to watch them suffer.

You will know when it's time.

Hugs to you and Ginger.

My heart breaks just thinking a your dilemma. I really don't think anyone can say anything to make your decision easier, just know ginger loves you and trusts you to make the right decision for her. Prayers to you and ginger.

KimmyK...

My heart goes out to you during this very emotionally difficult time in your life. I can totally relate to how you're feeling right now as I've been down that same terrible dark road many times before and will be again at some point as I'm currently Mommy to five kitties..all of whom I rescued.

I'm sending tons of very special prayers to your precious girl and tons of very special Comfort Hugs to the both of you.
