It is day 7 that my indoor only cat got out the back door. I opened the door to put a bowl of food out for the stray cats and Bootsy ran out, went down the steps and disappeared. It took seconds. I feel like I am going to lose my mind, I've done all the things suggested on websites. There is food out all day for the strays, I've looked all over during the day and at night. I asked neighbors to be on the lookout. This is a townhouse community so I'm sure she's in the community. She's my constant companion. Sleeps with me every night. A sweet cat but a scaredy-cat. She would never go to anyone but me. I refuse to believe she's gone for good. I'm praying for her to come back. Any ideas?

Don't know if it works but I've heard to put their litter box outside.

A few ideas:
- post photos of her on your cluster mailboxes
- ask to post her photo at all vets, rescues, grocery stores in your area
- alert your trash removal service...they often find cats
- offer a reward
- leave items that have your scent just outside your door
- keep calling and go beyond just your door when you do so...bring your voice closer to where she could be
Prayers being said for her safe return to you!

My daughter reunited with her kitty that was gone for 30 days and was found 6 miles away. This was due to a facebook lost pet page. Dont lose hope!

If she has a chip in her that you registered with your information, whether she's picked up and turned in to a shelter or if someone thoughtlessly intends to adopt her and brings her to a vet, they will always look for a chip and scan it. She will be returned to you, you'll be notified she was found.
I can understand if you didn't put a collar and an ID on her as an indoor cat. But all pets should have an ID chip for exactly these circumstances.
I had my vet put an ID chip in my indoor-only cats. So afraid to lose one! I also trained them right from the start that the door was NO. I made horrible loud noises with pebbles shaking inside a can to scare them when they were anywhere near the door. Pretty soon the door was a place for them to avoid. I could talk to the mailman or the UPS driver for long minutes with the door open and my cats never came near the door.
I know just how worried you are. There's a very good chance she'll come home. Keep calling her. Especially call out to her and walk around near your house in the early evening. Then stop and listen for her meows. You might hear her and she'll let you approach. Or call from the doorway with the door open so she can run back in. Use a really welcoming mommy voice. Don't give up. And don't reprimand her if she arrives. She didn't run away to aggravate you. She was curious!
I strongly advise you to stop feeding the stray cats. She can smell them and she may have run out being very attracted to see who's out there. Providing food gives strays a reason to stick around and her a reason not to come home. She is not hungry if you're providing food out there.
I will pray for her to come home. Try not to worry. My brother's cat ran out when his house was on fire. She came back to the rubble 2 weeks later. She was hungry!
Stay positive. Keep calling her name.

I know nothing about cats, but I do hope you find her safe and well. Please post updates.

I hope your cat is microchipped and that she will be found and back home soon.

I know how worried and upset you must be but like others have said don't give up! When our indoor cat ran out, 2 times both in different states, we kept walking around with a can of tuna fish and calling her name and you know saying "kitty kitty kitty." Eventually she showed up. She was scared and happy to see us.
And also to let your local vets, rescue, humane societies know.
and.
There is also a website called catfinder.org for emergency lost cat notifications-they notify everyone all around your neighborhood with facebook and instagram. I've never used it but saw it online. There is a fee but I don't know how much.
We'll all be praying!

Post a photo on "Next Door." If you aren't familiar with "Next Door," its a neighborhood website. People post lost cats all the time. Your neighbors will be on the lookout for your cat. Some even go looking.
Good Luck!

put it on FB. If you don't have, have someone do it for you. I see these lost pets on my FB feed every day.
So sorry & good luck. I can imagine how upsetting this is.
