A postmaster's call for help, after one of his mail carriers was
trapped inside a truck surrounded by wild turkeys in New Jersey,
has been released.
The postmaster of the Hillsdale branch the U.S. Postal Service
called 911 just after 12 p.m. Tuesday, prompting police officers to
respond to the scene to assist.
Here's how the call started:
"Hey Sarge, this is the postmaster over in Hillsdale. You're not
going to believe this, but I have a carrier that's being attacked
by wild turkeys, won't let him deliver the mail."
The postmaster laughed.
"This has been going on. It's crazy. They were actually attacking,
biting, chase the trucks - everything."
Word in the neighborhood is that the mail carrier was a substitute
-- and wasn't familiar with the birds.

One attacked the tire on my car as I started to back out of the driveway. I tried to get out of the car and it tried to attack me. We get herds of them in the yard every few months.

We have them in my area too. Strange and wonderful birds!
When they have come into my yard my cats are fascinated!
I swear they look at me as if to say "Let us at 'em Mom, we can take 'em down!"

Wild turkey attacks are pretty common. I highly recommend the This American Life story Murder Most Fowl, about a turkey that attacked multiple people on Martha's Vinyard and wound up getting shot by the police.
You can listen to it here: http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/452/poultry-slam-2011?act=2#play
Or access the transcript here: http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/452/transcript Scroll down to or search for Act Two: Murder Most Fowl.

I heard this story on the radio last night. Then someone called into the radio show. He was at Shoprite. And he said he was surrounded by Turkey Hill Ice Cream. What should he do?
Glad there was a peaceful resolution for the Mail Carrier. The article said the police came and when the poilce walked near the turkeys, the turkeys flew away.

Welcome to North Jersey land of many creatures, I had a family walking thru my backyard last spring. NJ is a hotbed of wild animals despite its concrete and industrial reputatation. Wild turkeys are also very agressive. I would not get out of my car if one was outside of it.
