@susan kay, seabreeze, shawnie, forestwolf and all who responded.

I appreciate your input so much as I comtemplate what to do about Chloe.  I love her so much and want to make the best decision.

My vet finally reached the cardiologist at Tufts.  She said that Chloe is not in total heart failure but has heart disease and would be considered higher risk.  She would have to be monitored carefully and may go into temporary heart failure after surgery and would need an injection immediately.  Therefore, she needs 24 hr care afterwards.  My vet is not a 24 hr facility so w would have to transfer to one shortly after sugery.  We could go to Tufts but the cost would prpbably be double.  Her tracheal collapse and other issues were not discussed.

I told my vet that I wantd to wait another 10-14 days before making a decision.  I went and picked up more anti-inflammatory meds yesterday.  My vet will re-evaluate her June 13.

I am trying to avoid surgery at all cost.  Not feeling comfortable at this time due to age and medical conditions.  Right now she is getting around and likes to wiggle on her back in her spearmint patch outside.  She still loves to eat and wag her tail. She is carried around alot too.  Not sure her level of pain. She doesn't appear to be in much pain but I don't know,

I will be taking some of suggestions to my vet.  Again, than you so much.  I love my furbabies so much and this has been difficult.

@bichon mom  I would suggest getting a quote from Tufts before ruling them out.  When my dog had to have surgery for her patellar luxation I got an estimate from the University Vet School and also a specialist.  They were comparable.  I would think Tufts would use all the latest equipment and be better able to handle any emergencies that might happen.  Their Vets are also probably more experienced in this type of surgery.

I am so sorry to hear about your Chloe.  Its so hard to know what to do for them.  Maybe Tufts will have something good for her.  Hugs to you and Chloe

Well, I called Tufts today myself- the orthopedic people.  Long story short, they said the soonest they can see her is August 22.  Unreal!!  They said it wasn't an emergency.  I am on a cancellation list.
