@Shanus - I'm glad they are taking care of Molly. Of course you are one mom who's on top of everything!

Years ago DH asked me to stop by someone's house and bring some puppies in on my way to school. They were purebred pups and had been promised to new owners as soon as they could leave their mom. Two of the litter had already died, and the owner couldn't figure out why. (I can't remember why she couldn't take them in, but it was on my way.) I got them, so sweet, all huddled together in a lined box. DH already had a theory- the owner had just had her downstairs painted right before they were born. While driving I listened to them whimpering. I told DH I wanted to drive away with them and take care of them! None of them could be saved. DH said it was the paint.

I tell all of my friends who have their house painted to be aware and if possible let their pets visit someone else. So important.

@beach-mom   That's just heartbreaking!  So sad.

@Shanus   I hope they find out what's wrong with Molly.  As others have said, Bordatella is one vaccine that isn't foolproof.  I fostered a dog that had kennel cough (I didn't know it of course), and that dog gave it to my dog.

Thanks to all who love Molly. The vet called....Kennel Cough...either bacterial or viral...several types. She's on meds, had her "senior checkup" while there and DH is picking her up now.

Who would have thought? Well, I guess all of you!!!

@Shanus

I hope Sweet Molly will be okay.  You've got so much going on now - & Molly being in a state of confusion not understanding it, neither of you need additional worry.

Hugs to Sweet Molly, please be well.

@KingstonsMom

The kennel cough meds don't always work.  Our current dog was given the med before being boarded & when we brought home she had it (although not as bad as our first dog.)  Our first dog had it very bad after we brought him home.  I don't have great confidence in this med but I guess it's all they have.

@ShanusWell, Darn.  You might want to Let the Day care Know they've got Kennel Cough going through.

@candys mine   The vet said not to bother telling the daycare. He's seen lots of cases of kennel cough in the last several weeks. Folks are returning to work and doggies going back to daycare, if that was their schedule.

I didn't know there are many strains of kennel cough. That's similar to the flu and why the flu shot isn't always on target. The same w/ kennel cough vaccine...it's hit or miss.

Besides Molly's antibiotic, she takes a tsp. of Robitussin DM before bedtime. Go figure. The vet said she probably won't take it because of the taste. I guess he doesn't have a beagle. 😜

@Shanus   Well, that is an interesting stance on the matter for a Veterinarian to take. I would tell the Daycare center Anyway.  Then They can withhold that information to their clients or not.   NOT the Veterinarians call I wouldn't think.

@candys mine   We live in a very small city with only 3-4 daycare situations available where there are large indoor/outdoor pay areas. If not that, you take your pet to a kennel and they're crated all day. The vet meant any time your dog is around others, vaccine or not, they're exposed to other dogs and kennel cough, etc. All other dogs must have recent immunization records in their files...kennel cough included.

Molly needs updated records to stay overnight at any kennel in the area. Thanks for your concern.
