Thanks for all your ideas. I spoke to the vet tech yesterday who suggested a more delectable treat like hot dog pieces. I was using her usual training bits.
I hate for her to be alone downstairs whining know I'm home, but upstairs where we could spend the day together. OSHA precents me from taking her to work the other days.
I'll keep you posted and try to take apic if I ever get her to try it.

@Jk9 I agree, if there isn't a runner or something else on the stairs to make them un-slippery, that may be part of the problem, especially if the dog is older. I don't know what it is about older dogs slipping easily on hard floors, but it does happen.
As another poster mentioned, there is something to having the dog walk up with his side to the wall. As a senior, our dog walked with his side touching the cupboards when he went through the hard-floor kitchen.
