Re: Lots of candles on this cake!

That's certainly an unusually long life for a large dog breed and particularly a pure bred Golden!  They have a very high percentage rate of getting and dying from cancer at around age 10.  That is so sad so I'm very glad for Augie and his people.

Growing up we had a German Shepherd / Collie mix dog who stayed outside in her huge doghouse.  My mother didn't like dogs but she actually cooked for the dog.  May be that is why Queenie lived till 22.

@jlkz  Wow, that is an amazingly long life. Something about that mix of Shepherd

and Collie combination.

My neighbor in the mountains loves golden retrievers. Both died of cancer at around 10 years.

They have another young retriever pup....may be this time they will be luckier !

Wow,that's quite an achievement for a bigger dog. Happy Birthday and many more!

I had a kitty live to 22. I currently have a 16 year old Snowshoe. He recently had some thyroid problems so now he take meds transdermally. Vet said he had the best blood work he had seen for an elder cat. Hope to have him around for much longer.
