There is a similar true story that was made into a movie with Richard Gere.  It was Hachi:A Dog's Tale (2009).  He was a Japenese Akita and he would go to the train station everyday to meet his owner and continued to do so for nine years after the owner passed away until Hachi himself died.  It's a sad story but heartwarming.   It was filmed right here in RI at an old train station.    There is a statue of Hachi at the train station in Japan, he was a very special dog.
