From Microsoft News:
A Massachusetts mutt that was taken from its owner’s car was reunited after a TV news crew spotted the dognapper.
Kyle Gariepy, 29, has been charged with larceny after he allegedly broke into a parked car in Cambridge around 12:30 p.m. on Friday and took a 13-month-old German Short Haired Pointer named Titus. The thief was later spotted on surveillance footage walking with the dog over a nearby bridge.
Later while reporting on the incident, a 7NEWS crew saw the dog with the man and confronted them.
Titus a Massachusetts mutt that was taken from its owner’s car was reunited after a TV news crew spotted the dognapper.
Gariepy told the newscasters and later police that he thought the dog was trapped in the locked car and the whole thing was actually a misunderstanding. However, according to police, Gariepy never called the number on the dog’s tags or reported the incident to animal control services.
Gariepy’s been charged with larceny of more than $1,200 and breaking and entering into a vehicle to commit a felony.
Emotional owner Greg Siesczkiewicz is reunited with his stolen German Short Haired Pointer, Titus.
Man and best friend were soon reunited.
“I’m just glad that the person came back and I’m just glad that you guys were there,” Titus’ owner, Greg Siesczkiewicz, told 7NEWS. “If anyone ever sees this who question the value of media, social media, broadcast media, this proves it.”

So this happy ending means somehow it's ok to leave your dog alone inside a car? No mention of that mistake the owner made.
It's never safe to leave any pet or any child alone in a car with the windows up enough so they'd have to be broken to get the dog out for a good reason or not.
I think this guy was very lucky to get his young dog back, but he should learn to take his dog out of the car with him or leave it home.

IMO it's never okay to leave a pet or child alone in the car.
From the owner's reaction upon reuniting, I feel sure he learned from his mistake and will never let it happen again.

This dog has unusual markings which made him instantly recognizable. Lucky for the dog and the owner.

Inside Edition reported that he (the kidnapper) told them he was suppose to be taking the dog for a walk and that he mistakenly took the wrong dog...whaaaat?? Hey buddy, you're a liar.
