I guess I don't understand how a dog gets into any food they're not supposed to and if they do get into some chocolate it's not like their owner gave it to them on purpose. I'm sure dog owners know that's a no no and they should be on the way to an emergency veterinarian's office. Any people food our dogs get is given by us. If we're in doubt we either don't give it to them or we Google it. Google gets its information from various veterinarian websites. Their treat box does include carob treats which are perfectly safe for dogs.

This chart brings back a memory. Rescued a dog and I was stressed with all the hoopla. When I got home made a cocktail which the dog drank while I was in the bathroom. She was fine.

@monicakmYup, I do get what you are saying But a LOT of Non intentional " Dietary indiscretions" happen to dogs and cats too during the holidays when things that are Not usually put out are around. People get the ingredients together and leave them on the counter to bake when they get home. Chocolate Morsels YUM!
A wrapped gift is left on the coffee table having been brought Just as you all were leaving for the Party, unaware that it had the best dark chocolate bourbon balls in creation inside. DELICIOUS!
Grannies famous raisin bread? Who Knew?!
The wrapping table has scads of ribbon.
The knitting yarn gets left out while making your first attempt at that blanket for the new baby.
SO MANY pitfalls for unsuspecting pets to get into trouble. It all tastes GOOD going down. It's fun to play with until they swallow a couple of feet of ribbon. That is really sharp stuff on a soft intestine.
It's just abscent mindedness not malice that happens here so
my thought is Any Reminder is a good reminder.

It should be avoided but a tiny amt depending on the dog's weight isn't a death sentence. I would hate for the owner of a Bull Mastiff to think his dog is going to die because his 110lb dog ate a Hershey Kiss.
You're right @monicakm. But DH says if a dog ingests any chocolate at all, he/she should be taken to a veterinarian ASAP. He says no matter how much a dog weighs it can affect other areas, and like people, each dog is different. What may not bother one could lead to tragic consequences for another.

I don't know if all dog owners are aware that one ibuprophen can kill a dog.
Also, why would anyone chance giving their dog, even if it is a 100 pounder, a Hershey Kiss? Why give your dog carob treats? There is nothing nutritional about giving that to your dog.
Don't get me started on Greenies, rawhides, those garbage sausage treats. Full of glycerine, choke hazards, and carcinogens.
Just feed a good dehydrated raw real food treat to your dog. Or maybe a carrot or a piece of apple.

@Kachina624 Thanks for the timely reminder. Our vet said after the holidays they are always busy addressing digestive upsets in animals.

I recently moved from a House on a very busy corner, that was also a major Bus Stop for Schoolchildren, turnover ever 15 min for hrs. And also lots of Dog Walkers.
One Dog Walker alerted me that they found grapes littered on the walkway that snacking school kids had dropped. The walked, & escaped dogs almost ate them.
I knew chocolate, but had no idea about keeping Grapes & Raisins away from dogs!
Thanks for this reminder @Kachina624
