Many of you gave me great advice back on 12/2/21 when I started the thread I inherited a Senior Dog. I continued to seek advice from my forum friends with updates on Jake.
Today, I must announce that my Good Boy Jake was put to sleep in the comfort of his loving Forever Home.
In the last several weeks he was growing weak from several ailments including Chronic Kidney Disease, Arthritis, and Dementia. 😞
Along with my husband, son and his dear pup Sasha I witnessed the peaceful end of Jake's long wonderful life.
I am heartbroken and overwhelmed because I loved him so much. In the 3 short years and 3 months that we had him we took great care of him and loved him whole heartedly.
It was a very small price to pay for the love, friendship, loyalty and sweet kisses we received from him!
It was my pleasure and honor to welcome Jake to our family.
He brought such love, light, support, comfort and kindness to all of us in this family. He will forever be remembered and cherished.
I hope he has been reunited with his original daddy Dwight. And I hope we did good by both of them!
Below is the original post when I was happy, excited and nervous about his arrival.
Oh, how I wish it were that day instead of this dreaded sad day!
My husband's friend passed away on Sunday. He left behind Jake; a 14 year old lovely dog.
Four years ago when the friend began having health problems; he asked my husband if he would care for Jake if he passed.
He's a terrier mix, apricot in color. He wags his tail a lot, indicating that he's happy. I have also seen him laying around, looking like he's missing his dear dad.
His back legs are a little weak, but doesn't seem to hinder him much. He has bad breath, and hasn't been groomed since before the start of the pandemic. He has an appointment on Monday.
We are in touch with his VET who told us he was treated on 11-8 (last week) for a UTI and to continue medication for 20 days. Other then that and his weak legs; he is in good health for a dog of his age.
My son has a dog that also loves and knows Jake and are happy to see each other more frequently now.
We are happy but very nervous as to what is ahead. It is our honor and privilege to have Jake here with us, in his forever home.
Does anyone out there have any tips, or advice for us? Would really appreciate it!
First time I have tried starting a thread. I hope I did this right.
Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read my post. I really need to express my feelings about my wonderful fur
baby.
Jake you are loved and missed. 😞
That's him up in the corner!

I'm so sorry to hear of Jake's passing. It was a wonderful show of love to your husbands friend to give him a great home after the friends death. He was very lucky to be able to go to a loving home and not to a shelter. You continued showing your love by letting Jake go peacefully and not suffering. My condolences to you and your family on your loss. It's never easy.

I am so sorry to hear your beloved Jake has passed. It's very tough; I lost my own constant companion just one month ago.
Such a loving act to take in your friend's dog--I'm quite sure he was relieved to know Jake would be loved and cared for after he was gone. And he was. But because you loved him, this is now the hard part--saying goodbye.
Once again you stepped up with yet another selfless act and let him go so that he was no longer suffering. The last act of true love.
I only wish it didn't hurt so much. 🐾🪽💔

@KBEANS I'm so sorry for your loss of your fur kid Jake, the sadness and grief passes with time and changes over to those sweet memories that we remember of our furry kids. I'm sending you a giant cyber hug as I've been there myself and I'm crying with you.
