Re: I inherited a Senior Dog

Jake is so very lucky that you are giving him a home.  Give him lots of love, keep an eye out for any changes and see the vet if you do.  I lost my senior dog (15 year old) three months ago and miss her everyday.  Give Jake a hug for me.  Heart

Re: I inherited a Senior Dog

Your friend was very fortunate to have such loving people. Many are not so kind and caring. I am sure the dog is grateful for your kindness. Bless you for doing God's work.I would be very happy to have friends like you. Take care.

First off thank you for taking this beautiful soul into your home and hearts. Wonderful that you are giving him a spa day. They can fix the breath issue and it might make him feel good too. Maybe ask the vet for a arthritis med for the back legs?  Thank you again for welcoming him to your home. 😇🐾❤️

Re: I inherited a Senior Dog

Bless you for adopting Jake into your family.  May your love and kindness come back to your family tenfold.  I am sorry that Jake’s owner passed,  but I am sure your promise to take care of Jake brought him peace in the end.

Re: I inherited a Senior Dog

@KBEANS   It is so wonderful that you agreed to take this dog after your husband's friend passed.  I know that was a great comfort to your friend.

I would suggest taking him to the Vet for a full check-up.  He may have some problems with his teeth that need to be addressed.  If you have your own Vet that you trust more than your friend's Vet, take him there and have his records transferred before the appointment.

I'm glad you're getting him groomed.  He needs to have a follow-up appointment with the Vet anyway after he finishes his antibiotics to make sure his UTI has cleared up completely.  Since he's 14 years old he probably has arthritis and needs something for that, at least a supplement.  My Vet recommends Dasuquin.  You can order this from Chewy or Amazon.

Again, it's so wonderful that you adopted him.  He sounds like a very sweet dog.  I've adopted older dogs before.  They're wonderful.

Re: I inherited a Senior Dog

@KBEANS Thanks for giving Jake a home and taking such good care of him.

When he was older my dog had trouble with his back legs too. Sometimes he couldn't get up the 3 steps to get into the house. So we would put a belt in front of his hind legs. And we would pull up on the belt and he was able to handle getting up the steps. He was a collie so he was bigger than a terrier. But maybe you could find something to help lift Jake's rear end when needed.

Thank you for looking after him. Both of you have to go through adjustments. Not as easy when we are older. Enjoy your time together.

Re: I inherited a Senior Dog

@KBEANS We bought our elderly dog a tempurpedic type dog bed at Sam's. It relieved the pressure on his little achy body. They don't always have them in stock, but their price was wonderful.
