Re: I had to let my boy go and I’m crushed

@Nugbucker I’m sure you did the right thing. You have to trust your Vet since he knew Zeus better than any of us. I feel your pain especially when something happens so suddenly.  So sorry for your loss.

@Nugbucker. I'm so sorry for your beloved Zeus. We love our pets and in return, we get unconditional love back. How sacred and pure is that! Zeus was family and one must grieve for the ones we love. You did what you had to do. We don't want to watch our loved ones suffer. I had a Labradoodle and a Yorkie (they grew up together) and had to make that choice for both. One had cancer one was having seizures. I cried for weeks for both, day and night even at work. It's now been almost 20 years and once in awhile, I still have nightmares about my decisions. It took me years to let myself be ok with my decision. You have wonderful people here that are with you. Know now, that you made the right decision!

Happiness is not a destination, it is a way of life.

Re: I had to let my boy go and I’m crushed

Heartfelt sympathy for your necessary decision and sudden loss. I’ve had that experience putting down a young pet and it’s just as hard as deciding the fate of an old one. Our sick pets need our merciful help to end life in dignity and in comfort. Your Zeus loves you where he is across the bridge. He is grateful for your releasing him from suffering.

Allow yourself your tears and need for comfort. You have support and understanding here and among your family and friends. It’s the suddenness and the doubt that make it harder for now. Don’t feel guilty, don’t overthink. A pet parent is guided by a vet and sees her duty to always serve the pet’s best interest. You did what was right. Accept the unfairness it feels like and have peace of mind. Zeus had your loving care here and now God makes sure he is in a good place.

Feel better soon.

@Nugbucker  i am soooo sorry.  this is a searing pain and loss, i know.  i wish i had words to make you feel better - but really, when you love a kitty or other animal, and you lose them, it is natural to feel what you are feeling due to the years of love and relationship.  it is proof of those bonds that cannot be denied. so cry your eyes out, as long as you are called to do so, and somehow miraculously the pain transforms into enduring love and special memories that become a part of you.   wishing you the best.

@Nugbucker I am so very sorry, I have tears rolling down my face as I read your post. My Arthur went like that and it’s been six years and I have never forgotten how much he meant to me! I will be doing something and My Arthur will pop in my mind and heart of dunking his head under the cold water faucet and calling out for mee and my hubby to come dribble water into his mouth. You will never forget your speacial kitty, maybe someday you will be able to adopt another special kitty, which will help you and provide some healing for you. We did adopt again, Aggie is a very different kitty but still needs special needs and we have come to love her. She has slowly learned that we will not hurt her and that we love her. My thoughts are with you.

Re: I had to let my boy go and I’m crushed

Hi, JLO77, sending deepest condolences to you and much love to dear Zeus.  The only thing that rivals the power of the love we share with our pets is the power of the shock and grief which comes with their passing.  Over the years I have lost two kitties to cancer and in both cases, I halted treatments when it became clear that their lives would reduced to endless vet visits without a positive ultimate outcome.

Please be comforted to know that your difficult and compassionate decision in this case is just one more gesture of love for which you will ALWAYS have Zeus' heart.  Heart
