I posted awhile back about Gabriel's (lab) excessive shedding...well, I tried Shed X oil with zero improvement.   I do really like Oster shedding shampoo along with deep vigorous brushing throughout the bathing...wow, soooo much hair comes out.  I brush him daily,  because my hardwood floors drive me crazy seeing all his yellow hair🤯.  I'm vacuuming every day, sometimes twice...i can't stand it.  I've had another lab, (silver) and several different breeds, but this guy tops the shedding,  YIKES!!  He's on a good salmon diet too but nothing is helping.  We took him to vet and he's fine, happens my vet also had a yellow lab, and he said his truck was literally covered in hair.   So today I ordered this tool called the furminator...got great reviews on several sites, but some complaints about the handle breaking.   Im going to give this a try.  I have different brushes,  mitts, etc...shed, shed, shed.

Re: I ORDERED THE FURMINATOR...

@Dazlin   I use the Furminator on my cat, Henry, sometimes.  I don't think it does any better of a job than just a regular comb.  This is shedding season, as I'm sure you know, so it's going to be worse now.  I hope the Furminator does work for you.

Re: I ORDERED THE FURMINATOR...

I have used...no problem with the handle.   But it just seems as there is no end to the amount of hair that will come off your dog.   I just have to remind myself it's less than it would be without using!

Re: I ORDERED THE FURMINATOR...

I have used furminator on a golden retreiver and now on a great pyrenese/collie.  I think it helps a lot.  Yes they will still shed, but I find I don't have to do floors every day.  And I have to think the dog is more comfortable in the warm weather with less fur.

It is amazing the volume of hair that comes out!

Re: I ORDERED THE FURMINATOR...

I've had a Furminator since the Q sold them years ago. I've used it on my goldens over the years. My groomer says it does remove too much hair, including the good hair, and to be cautious about how often you use it. The undercoat on dogs is there to protect the dog's skin. If you remove too much of that then the skin can get exposed to the elements. Be careful.

Re: I ORDERED THE FURMINATOR...

I have been under arrest since March, so no visits from the grandpups.  But it was cold last week and I hauled out a clean? afghan, and guess what?  They are shorthairs too.  Some kind of magic.

I've used my Furminator on carpet (inside my car!) and some upholstery. Just be careful with the upholstery b/c some of it can snag very easily from the Furminator. But it works really good on carpet. You know how fur can work its way into the fibers and get embedded there so badly that the vacuum can't even suck it up. The Furminator pulls all of that out.
