Re: I ORDERED THE FURMINATOR...

I posted awhile back about Gabriel's (lab) excessive shedding...well, I tried Shed X oil with zero improvement.   I do really like Oster shedding shampoo along with deep vigorous brushing throughout the bathing...wow, soooo much hair comes out.  I brush him daily,  because my hardwood floors drive me crazy seeing all his yellow hair🤯.  I'm vacuuming every day, sometimes twice...i can't stand it.  I've had another lab, (silver) and several different breeds, but this guy tops the shedding,  YIKES!!  He's on a good salmon diet too but nothing is helping.  We took him to vet and he's fine, happens my vet also had a yellow lab, and he said his truck was literally covered in hair.   So today I ordered this tool called the furminator...got great reviews on several sites, but some complaints about the handle breaking.   Im going to give this a try.  I have different brushes,  mitts, etc...shed, shed, shed.

That is called blowing their coat, and yes it is terrible, twice a year,my husbands lab., lost so much hair, tiny bits of hair every where.

@SilleeMee , believe it or not, my toe was stinging me like needles.  I couldn't figure what was going on until I found one of Gabriel's hairs stuck straight in like a quil...actually took a hard pull to get it out...how crazy is that!!     As far as my furniture, I keep a blanket on the couch, and still need to vacuum it.  I probably wouldn't use the furminator on furniture.

I mostly use a long-tooth shedding comb made for long coats. It has a single row of teeth. That gets down to the undercoat and removes some of the loose hairs without disturbing the healthy ones there. For overall brushing I use a standard wire brush which works great on the top coat and gets any surface tangles and mattes out...smooths the coat. My goldens have always gone to the groomers about every 2 to 3 months, sometimes less. Otherwise I find it difficult to take care of their fur and claws by myself.

I have 2 furminators - one for my dog and one for my cat.  It really gets a lot of the hair out and they like it.  Go slowly when you use it.

Re: I ORDERED THE FURMINATOR...

@SilleeMee ...thank you for sharing...i have the slicker brush you posted.   My daughter sends her dog to be groomed and she said they do some type of de-shedding which seems to help for up to 6-8 weeks.   The furminator is going to be my last investment on tools.  I just may have to resort to a professional grooming at some point...im a bit over my head here at home trying to take care of everyone and keep up.

Grooming a golden is much different than a lab,  labs hair is tiny and is every where  in house, goldens tend to  fly in bunches,  i have many tools for goldens,  a rake, a shedding tool, and slicker is best ,i bath, cut ,groom ,do nails myself, oh how i miss my spirit, he had beautiful hair, and more.BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THE FURMINATOR ON YOUR LAB, find a shedding blade ,amazon has them.

Dual sided shedding blade is best, old fashion tool, that works great.
