Re: I Can Live Without a Lot of Things...

I love dogs so very much, along with all animals, but dogs are my favorite. I have always had dogs. I grew up with them. They were always treasured. For the first time we are without any. We lost our last one in Sept. I think we are finally done. The last 2 losses almost killed us. I will always miss having my own, but I think I will just enjoy others, it's just too hard to lose them.

When we adopted our Sparky we knew he was dying (heartworm) but he lived another 4 years. Altho we miss and mourn for him we do not regret adopting him. He died knowing he was loved and secure. There have always been dogs in our house, but we are getting old that I doubt a shelter would allow us to adopt now. We now have 3.

Saving one cat will not change the world, but for that one cat....the world will change forever. I believe this also applies to dogs.

@Group 5 minus 1  We rescued our little dog.  She had been left as a puppy at a home when the residents moved and wandered into a family members garden hungry.  I KNOW with all certainty that she knows we rescued her. But really, she healed my family more than she'll ever know.

I so agree @monicakm  My dogs have been the loves of my life.

@Renata22, it is devastating when your fur children die. But think of what their lives would have been without you!

We adopted our sweet terrier mix from a shelter in New Orleans. Her "family" moved out and left her, a baby out on the front lawn. We were going to get an older dog but could not get her out of our minds. We have had her for over two years; we are seniors but still have love to give. With great loss comes great pain but the rewards of saving a life are infinite.

There sure are some wonderful people contributing here. I am so happy to be able to read your posts. Such beautiful words about saving lives. I've always saved everyone I could. I ended up with the neighbor's dogs, even bought one of them. I'm not saying we'll never help another one. If one needs, I'm sure we'll be there. The house is so empty and quiet, but right now, that might be what we need.

After I broke my leg the doctor informed me that I should never take a dog for an on-leash walk again because any future falls might put me in a wheelchair for life.

We currently have two  middle-aged dogs... and I am heartbroken that I might never get another one.
