How to move on from loss of a pet? Crying constantly

[ Edited ]

My cat was euthanized on Saturday and I am a mess. I can't sleep and all I do is cry. I miss him so much. I have 4 other cats to take care of and one of them is the brother of the one who passed and I worry about him too. I don't know what to do, how long will this last? Just devastated. I want my boy.

@darkhomespun

So sorry for the loss of your special friend....others with more wisdom will have something to say that might help.

Sadly, most of us know that awful feeling and, sadly, we know that the only thing that helps heal our hearts is time.

I've lost too many cats over the years and have felt those losses deeply.  Made myself physically sick for a time.

You never forget...they never leave your heart, but the days pass and you try to hold on to the happy memories.

The fact that you have other kitties to care for will help.  They are depending on you.

I've never found a fast way through it...or a cure.  You just learn to live with it.

Re: How to move on from loss of a pet?

it's ok to cry and cry.  You have to mourn your baby.  Pets become like children to us.  You just have to grieve just like you would if a close family member died.  It's very hard.  Just remember, it's ok to feel very sad.  Time won't make your sadness go away but it will become more bearable.

Everyone is different in how long the grief lasts.  One day you will know that you are going to be ok, but not today.  Give yourself permission to mourn the loss.

@darkhomespun  I know how you feel. Mine passed away in my arms a few months ago. I can't get over it. I miss her so much. I still have my other one which does help.

My heart goes out to you.

We all mourn and grieve differently.  As your heart is breaking, it is all right to cry. Eventually the hurt will lessen a bit, but it does take time. Try and comfort yourself with your fur children who need you.  While you can never replace a human or fur baby with another, may the rememberance remain bright and happy in your heart.

God bless.

Re: How to move on from loss of a pet? Crying constantly

LAST NIGHT

I stood by your bed last night; I came to have a peek.
I could see that you were crying, you found it hard to sleep.

I purred to you softly, as you brushed away a tear,
"It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour your coffee.
You were thinking of the many times your hand reached down to me.

I was with you at the shops today; your arms were getting sore,
I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today; you tend it with such care.
I want to re-assure you, that I'm not lying there.

I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you; I smiled and said, "it's me."

You looked so very tired and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know that I was standing there.

It's possible for me to be so near you everday.
To tell you with such certainty, "I never went away."

You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew...
In the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.

The day is over....I smile and watch you yawning
and say, "good night, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."

And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to meet you and we'll stand side by side.

I have so many things to show you, there's so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out....then come home to be with me.
You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

Oh dear.  So sorry for your loss.  Time will heal - it is the only thing.  How much is whatever works for you.
