I have a Maltese and to keep her white....it would have to be once a week.
I had her cut short now that she is older and she gets one in between Groomer visits only.
My brother just hoses off his big dog if she gets muddy in the backyard...LOL
What kind of dog you you have and how often do they get a bth?

@Nataliesgramma Hello! I have two large dogs. I bath them about two to three times a year. I use a mobil groomer who grooms the dog in a huge van parked out front my house. It is expensive, but I feel worth it.

I don't have a dog so I asked my neighbor. She said when he starts to stink squirs him w/the garden hose in the summer & takes him to the groomers in the winter.

I was almost afraid to look at these responses.....I thought I would feel EXTRA ashamed of myself for not bathing my bichon Suzie often enough. So far, I'm encouraged by the answers.
She won't really let me do much to her, brush her or cut her hair, so I do take her to a groomer, not often enough. Probably it is about every three months, but sometimes I get her in within 2 months. This is not enough, but it's how it goes around here.
I try to bathe her in my shower in between. Since she hates it so much, it's such a painful ordeal, I put it off for days and days sometimes
If she didn't act as though she were going to die, I'd be willing to bathe her much more often.
She does feel so much better after a bath or grooming, I can tell just by the way she acts.

I have/had black labs. They can be a bit stinky naturally but they got a bath at least once a week in the summer.
A family member has a little Jack Russell type and he was getting a bath every week but it made his skin itchy, so they stopped that. He gets a "bird bath" on his feet/legs after he's been outside for a while.
It depends on the breed and the coat.

For those that use a garden hose to wash their dog. It is uncomfortable or even painful and can be potentially dangerously cold, even on a warm day.
My nephew used a garden hose on his large dog and ended up at the vet because of it.
Best to wash your dog with lukewarm water once a month, otherwise you washout the natural oils that they do not regain quickly.

Seldom give them a bath. Regularly rinse them off after swimming or playing in the mud.

What did your nephew do with the garden hose to the dog that required a vet visit.

I have a french bulldog, and she gets a bath every couple of months. She probably doesn't really need it that often, but that's what I do.

@CrazyDaisy The water was to cold. His dog became weak and wasn't acting right. He used dog shampoo and the garden hose but it was to cold for her.The vet had to get her body temperature up.
I wouldn't want to have a bath/shower with a garden hose...
