I've been trying to get Henry off of the Purina Kitten Chow dry and onto something better. I tried mixing it with Wellness, and he picked out the Purina and left the Wellness. I returned the Wellness and bought Merrick. Today I mixed the Merrick in with the Purina. He did the same thing with it--ate the Purina and left the Wellness. How can I get him to eat the Merrick?
I was able to switch him on to Wellness canned from the Authority that he had been eating. He easily switched to it. I really don't want him to eat Purina forever. I hate to keep returning foods and trying other brands. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Take away the canned to encourge him to eat both dry types.
Tell him you are not playing any games !LOL!

When I put the canned and only the Purina dry out he eats every bite of both kinds.

I will admit, I am behind the times. Do the vets recommend cats get both types?
I never fed my cats any canned unless I had a sick one that needed encouragment.
I feed my neighbors outside cats dry only and my sister the cat foster only feeds dry except tiny babies and the old or sick ones.
As soon as the kittens are old enough, she weans them off the canned.

@Lapdog Vets suggest feeding them both types of food. Cats have so many kidney problems that they need the extra water that the canned provides. They often don't drink enough water. I wish I felt like I could only feed him dry, because canned is so expensive. I only fed dry to my cats in the past until they developed kidney problems. I feel like I should feed both types with Henry.

You know you learn something new everyday. Thank-you!.
What you said makes PURFECT sense. I will tell my sister too.
I worry about my Beagle not drinking enough. I am going to step up my efforts to get her to drink more.
Thank-you again

Research your pets food,.. u will want to find highest protein.. unfortunately, I dont have cats, but, its still same prinicial... If you buy your cats food, in a grocery store = terrible.
Research! - benefits of better cat food? - less waste, and huge reduction on cat waste smell

@Oggi You obviously didn't read my post. Henry was eating Purina when I got him two weeks ago. It is not a food I chose for him, but I have read from much research to switch them over gradually, not just change them over suddenly. I'm trying to switch him over to Merrick, which is a high quality food. No one does more research than I do about pets as well as pet food. No need to speak to me in such a condescending manner.
