High Fiber Food for Large Lab (need Grain Free) - Page 2

Thank you for ALL the comments. I am feeding him pumpkin some days, baby carrots & Green Beans for snacks, thank goodness he is a LAB, he loves ALL food!! I also use Carrot/Apple Wet Noses Organic Dog treats, low calorie/High Fiber, he loves those too. I am thinking I might go to my local Mud bay pet store and see what they have to say, I have saw the Taste of the Wild but it doesn't have as much fiber in it as some of the others. I just want him healthy and happy for the rest of his precious life!!

As for Honest Kitchen, you can go to their website and purchase samples inexpensively. It's a nice way to try their products.

I didn't know fiber affected the a- glands.

Yup, it creates BULK which when they 'go" it will press against the gland and help them express.

All I know is since feeding the Honest Kitchen, we no longer have to have the glands expressed and they no longer have erroneous expressions, which is never fun.

I did NOT know fiber helped with a-glands. My friend's dog became very ill, could not eat, walked around hunched up. With great concern he took the dog to the vet, and he had impacted ****** glands. He was so relieved it was something fixable that he could handle in the future with preventive measures. I'll have to mention fiber to him.

I fed Honest Kit for a while, and there was nothing wrong with it. I just think my dog likes the crunch of kibble and some of my homemade better. HK is a nice product, and surely is helpful to many dogs. Since it's soft, old and toothless dogs can eat it.

I'm not cheap but the Kitchen products are out of my price range for my size dog.

The box I would need is 110.00 and it lasts for 16 meals..... feed twice a day that is o nly 8 days?? and I have two BIG labs. That would be 825.00 a month.... Umm YA...No can do!!

Let us know which one you choose. Remember the best dog food is one your dog does well on and is within your budget. My mom was so against PURINA pro plan. But when so many breeders and show people were using it and it's not a grocery store food we decided to try it. It is actually the same price as nutro but you get ten pounds less. Nutro was making her stool very smelly. No more smelly stools on the PURINA pro plan grain free. Also with the change in food her mild itchiness has stopped with the addition of some coconut oil. So get what your dogs do the best on. That is the best food for your dog within your budget.

I totally agree with ALL you said and Pro Plan is supposed to be GREAT and grain free is the way to go, for US and our dogs actually

Yes, not cheap- I have 3-4 giant breed dogs (they are about twice the size of labs) at any given time but it has been amazing the changes we've seen in them since using it and we always get it on sale. But we each have to make those choices what is best for our budget and our pets. Good luck to you!

825.00 a month is a LOT for dog food for 2 dogs, for us at least, we make a good, honest living but not that good! I will ALWAYS feed my dogs the very best I can, I treat them like they are my children but even if I did have kids, I'm not even sure it would cost 825.00/month to feed them... 10K a year in food....just a FAR stretch for us. I'm looking into a few right now and also plan to try some samples of a few I have found. Thank you so much for your feedback and your pups are so lucky
