My 2 cats eat ONLY high-quality, grain free, high % meat, wet food. Both of them are a HEALTHY weight. Most dry cat food is junk with lots of carbs.

Ditto for what @italia8140 said  Good quality wet with very low carbs is the way to go.  Cans with "gravy" can have a lot of hidden carbs even if they're grain free.  Check out dr Pierson's nutrition info at catinfo dot org for carb content.   You do need to change food slowly if your kitty is picky - as others have said, refusing to eat can turn into a serious health problem for kitty.

 

Since changing her food, I swear she has more energy - she definitely plays a lot more.  This combo has helped her drop two pounds and she's now at an ideal weight for her frame.
