How can I keep a squirrel from eating all my bird seed?  I have a bird feeder hanging from a shepards hook.  It's been out there for over 6 months without a squirrel bothering it.  Well, he found it and he hangs upside down from it and eats it all.

Go to Google - and put in squirrel baffle.  I have one on each of my S hooks - squirrels can't get to the feeder cuz they hit a End of the Road under the baffle.

I bought a bird feeder from Amazon called Squirrel Buster Plus. It wasn't cheap but I no longer have problems with squirrels. Once they step on the perch their weight closes the feed ports so they can't get to the food. I love it!!

I also use a shepards hook for my bird feeder and earlier this year I saw online where a person strung a slinky (toy) over the shepards hook to deter the squirrels. It has worked pretty well. Google "slinky bird feeder squirrels" and some YouTube videos and articles will come up. It's cheap to try.

We feed the birds, squirrels, and chipmunks. The birds get birdseed. The squirrels and chipmunks get black oil sunflower seeds and a few handfuls of unsalted roasted peanuts in the shell every day. It gets a little pricey (especially the peanuts), but they are so much fun to watch. The squirrels never eat the birdseed, but I fill a gallon size pickle jug with the black oil sunflower seeds every morning and lay it sideways in the elevated feeder. Squirrel-In-A-Jar Feeder .

Re: HELP WITH SQUIRREL

[ Edited ]

I put out birdseed in the winter.  I find that the birds have plenty of company-squirrels, deer. I just buy BIG BAGS and it seem to work for all of them. And I get the pleasure of watching them from my window and taking pictures

They sure are quite the acrobats trying to get to the seeds in our feeders. I guess they have to eat too. What I don't want is a hawk showing up. They have to eat too, but not at my feeders.

@ScrapHappy

Uh .....   So what have you already tried?    Just where have you already searched?

Out of curiousity, I googled "squirrel birdfeeder prevention"  and several ideas came up.  Lots of information & solutions out there, at all price points.

I have a great squirrel repellent.  It's called a Yorkie.  She gives the squirrels the Devil.  They think twice before going for the feeder.  😊
