Haha! That's my kind of dog!Smiley HappyHeart

My neighbors dog is like that and once she decides after a few yards that she wants to go home, there is nothing we can do but have her take us back to the houseSmiley LOL

@tends2dogs   No, never. Have you tried treats? Somehow making the experience a happy one? My two get so excited about their walks when I start to put on my walking clothes. I wish I had an answer for you. Every dog is so different. Is he playful other times like with ball throwing?

Re: HAVE YOU EVER HAD A DOG THAT DIDN'T LIKE TO

We had a Border Collie who loved walks and would go for miles.  We couldn't even use the "W" because she learned what that meant.

Our second dog didn't mind short walks.  He was a rescue with a lot of separation anxiety.  He never liked to go far from home.  He would walk to a certain point and turn to go back home, lol.  Even if he was outside on the deck or in the yard, he would keep looking into the house to make sure we were still there.

Our newest rescue is just about a year old.  She runs around the house like crazy.  She rolls in the grass in the yard.  But, she will only walk to the end of the street and back.  So, my husband will take her out and run up and down the street with her a few times.

@QVCkitty1 - lol, that sounds like a Basset Hound.  My first experience with a Basset came from watching this woman who would take her Basset for a walk every afternoon past my daughters house.  I would see her on the days that I'd be sitting outside watching my grandsons.  Anyway, she would walk by with her dog and an empty little tykes wagon.  Finally, one day instead of just saying hi and petting her dog, I asked her about the wagon.  She said she really liked walking her dog, but when he decided he was done, he was DONE and would refuse to take another step.  He was too heavy to carry home, so now she would scoop him into the wagon and finish their walk!

@tends2dogs - I had one dog about 20 years ago who refused to walk on pavement and I didn't want her walking on folks lawns.  I used to drive her to the park and then we would walk where she could enjoy walking on grass and dirt.  There was nothing physically wrong with her except maybe she had tender pads?

No way! All my dogs LOVE to go on walks. Even just trying to silently get their leashes cause them to go crazy, even now at their old age!

I'd also just have a vet check to make sure there is no injuries or pain in the legs, joints or back.  Most puppies are very energetic, even if it is only for short spurts of time before they conk out for their puppy naps. Sometimes our dogs tell us in unusual ways that there is an issue that we otherwise wouldn't detect. But it also could just be your dog's personality.

Tends, I would be concerned about growth disorders like osteochondritis dissicans, and would urge you to take Willie to the vet to get checked out, just to be on the safe side.

go for a walk???   Everydog we have had before Willie, we couldn't even say the word walk.  We just called it W.  It caused to much excitement, otherwise.  I dare say that we have a low energy, almost 9 month old pup.......

The only pulling on our walks is us pulling him!!!  Have you had a dog like this before?

No expert at all here, but, I'd take him for wagon rides. Keep his leash on hand, on him, he may not be interested in what goes on around him. After a couple of rides, he may get curious about his surroundings. My dog wouldn't set still long enough for that, but yours, I bet would. Maybe just for starters. Are his hip joints ok too? Just curious. I have books at our library by the dog wisperer...he might have an answer for you!

Our little Pinta did that. Mom took her out for a walk and when she was done she just sat there. They don't even need to talk do they!!?

If that were my dog I would make an appointment with the vet for a complete exam. Maybe something is wrong with one of his legs. I had a dog with luxating (sp) patella's and she didn't want to walk. Also maybe it's a broken toenail or something very simple you just can't see. Poor thing. I know you'll get to the bottom of it. Good luck.

@m0rgan  and all others that recommended a trip to the vet.  Believe me, we have had Willie checked out many times in the months that we have had him.  His heart is good, lungs good, leg/muscle/ligaments all good.  The lady we got him from told us from the beginning that he is "reserved".  We said that since we are an "older" couple, that was fine with us LOL.  He does just fine when we turn around and head home.....lickitly split!  Also, he will play ball with my DH over and over....maybe it is the halter.  We switched to a halter because we didn't want to pull on his neck.  He runs all around the house jumping on and off the bed.  I think he is laid back.  The last time at the vet's one of the assistants walked him out to do his business and she came back and said "you are right...he doesn't like to walk".  He also does better if someone is walking in front of us.  He will walk right along then.

I had the same concern that it is physical, but, no, it isn't.  I do appreciate the concern, though! Smiley Happy

How is he/she off the leash? Active, playful? Is a leash just too restrictive?

My first GSD HATED a leash as a puppy. He was active, playful would play fetch and get silly but the leash?  He had issues until he was more than 1 yr old.

Just a puppy thing. He grew out of it.

@Snowpuppy  He has all kinds of energy off leash, but when we get the leash out, he lays down or jumps in bed!  If DH gets the ball out, he is ready to chase it!
