@beach-mom  Your story made me tear up.  Can't help it, I'm such a softee when it comes to animals. Heart

@kindred cats - Thank you for your compassion! We need people like you in this world - people who love animals. I would take them all if I could. Somehow the 4-legged children we have been blessed with since the day we were married have been the ones who knew WE needed them.

As the wife of a veterinarian I've seen the opposite way too many times. I've cried, and I've seen DH cry, over many horrible experiences. Many times an animal who has suffered will end up in a loving home or,  for a wild animal, in a safe sanctuary.

The worst is when an animal who has learned to trust a human has his heart broken by that human.

I guess it is just like people - once trust is broken it's hard to trust again.

Re: Fostering A Sweet Kitty!

We have one cat that will not eat canned food, we have no idea why. I've tried a number of different foods over the 13 years we have had her, it's a  no go for her. We feed Royal Canin and Young Again dry food, the Young Again is high protein. Our cats are all rescues so we do not know what their backgrounds were before they showed up here or until the rescuer got them. We just don't know the baggage they carry with them.
Last month we heard of kitties in NC that were in need of homes, 7 of them. Their human mom had dementia and had to go into a care facility, her daughter did not want them so she put them all out in the yard, the cats had not ever been outside before. They found homes for most but there were two that needed homes - thanks to Pilots-n-Paws they were flown to us here in PA. They are doing pretty good, one is sleeping with us nightly, the other is just now coming out from under the bed for petting and will come to eat instead of my putting food under the bed for her.
@ciao_bella please give your son a hug from us.

@We rescue cats  As I type this, my son just got home from work, but is filling up empty gallon milk jugs of water for the colony along with getting wet cat food cans and a huge bag of dry cat food ready to bring to the colony that he oversees.  He also has medication for one of the cats with an URI that was prescribed by a vet and my son has been successful in luring that one cat away from the others to eat a separate container of food with the antibiotic in it.  He's managed so far giving the meds to that one cat for 3 days now twice a day.  He's very dedicated to these animals and takes good care of them.  I'll make sure to give him a big hug!
