I got this email today-Peta has asked me to sign a petition which I did. Thought you might want to get involved-I can't provide a site but you might google it. Here's basically what they told me:

Cruelty for hire?! PETA has learned that the University of Florida (UF) contracted with Texas A&M University (TAMU) to experiment on 3-month-old golden retriever puppies deliberately bred to develop canine muscular dystrophy (MD).

Decades of these cruel experiments have failed to produce a cure or even a treatment to reverse symptoms in humans with MD.

@Judaline, thanks for posting.  This is the first that I have heard of this.  I have signed a petition against cocaine use in racing greyhounds.

The next time that I hear salt and ice together, it better be in a margarita!

I can't post the link becuz the Q will just delete it. I think if you go to Peta and put in your request it will come up. I also found it just googling what I'm looking for. The pictures are harsh. If you can't look just scroll quickly down to see where to sign your letter.

Many researchers have found a way around disclosing their experiments.   A friend of mine works for a university medical center/research center.   She has nothing to do with that part of the system but she works in the building where the dogs live.   She rescues spaniels.   I don't know the details or the law, but somehow they manage to keep it quiet or PETA would be after them, also.  I think the pain of  knowing their suffering is what makes her such a committed and successful rescuer.

This may be true, but it's really hard for me to believe.  I don't trust PETA and would never give them my name and address or e-mail address.  Some of the things they do are really terrible.  They don't even believe in keeping animals as pets, although you would never know it unless you dig deep into their information.  They have gone to dog shows and released the dogs from their crates where who knows what happened to them.  This was told to me by a breeder who was at one of the dog shows where this happened.

@NickNack  I trust them. The good they do outweighs the bad. They've had my name and address for over 20 years and have never bothered me. Once in a while I get an email. They have lists of the bad guys who test on animals. They do the ground work. Somebody's gotta do it. The animals can't dial 911. We've got to speak for them.
