Finally . . . Please meet Archie!

[ Edited ]

I really had my doubts that this was ever going to happen, but things are looking up. We have never brought a feral adult cat into the house until this guy, I've been relying on fellow rescuers for advice and assistance-without them this would not have happened. It's been almost 2 years of building trust-and we still have a long road ahead of us. This guy has drawn a lot of blood and reminded us how important our rabies and tetanus shots are.

We still do not reach out and touch him, he's given a wide berth. But he is coming out of his cage and exploring, the bed he is on is a favorite spot, but last night for the first time he started up the stairs to the kitchen, looked and came back to the safety of the family room. He's fixed, he's been tested and treated for parasites . . . and he is cat #14. Our home is now at kitty capacity.

He's a very handsome guy and thanks for giving him this chance. My sister has a feral colony at her house and all the inside cats she has are feral, but mostly from kittens. I have a feral  (from a kitten) from her place. He's 7 or 8 years old now and still a wild man. He's just crazy all the time, energizer kitty. He is a brat that still scratches when something is not up to his liking. Last year he bit me and I ended up going to the walk in clinic because the next day my wrist and hand ballooned over night. He's also a bully to my Maisie. On the other hand, he's one of the most loving  cats I've ever had, but he's a Jekyll and Hyde. But as all is said and done, I love him and wouldn't trade him for anything. Archie will come around, he'll just need time.

Waving to Archie 💕

I had some feral and even more senior rescues and indeed they come with a lot of history we can never know.  I was blessed to provide a safe haven.

I had one who only came out, even to eat, at night.

@We rescue cats  You are a kind soul to take care of these sweet kitties that have often been left to fend for themselves, they need our help.  I have 8 feral kitties and have been able to get two to finally let me pet them, working on number 3.  My husband always likes to tease me that after all I'm the cat whisperer.

@We rescue cats    Hi Archie.   You are knew very lucky boy. Good luck with Archie. I related to your post.   I rescued a feral female ginger kitty named Rosemary.  She never became totally tame and was always frightened by any noise or if anyone came to visit.  She hid in the back of one of my linen closet shelves which were deep and almost impossible to get her without almost climbing in. She was a handful.   I got her to the vet once and forget about the next time.  She was having none of it.  Yes lots of blood was spilled but she was sweet when just around the house and eventually got along wit my other two at the time.

bless you for your kind heart and what you do.

Re: Finally . . . Please meet Archie!

My gosh what a beautiful boy! We had our girl for 12 years, she passed last April of cancer.  She was labeled semi-feral; i had found her in a park on a cold December afternoon. She and her siblings were most likely dropped at this park.  I put down a humane trap and after several days, finally caught her.  It took many months of working with her for her to finally start coming around.  I always let her come to me-i would get down on the floor everyday and just lay there to gain her trust. She finally started to come around and ended up being such a love. Though she never stopped being scared and had alot of anxiety,  she remained our indoor kitty for 12 years and loved my daughter and I.  Just keep working with him, it takes alot of patience, but so worth it.

Take time every day to enjoy where you are without a need to fix it

Re: Finally . . . Please meet Archie!

He's a beautful boy and love his name.  Bless you for being so patient with him.

I have an older orange tabby that I adopted a year and a half ago.  He was a stray - was in a park - very thin and in rough shape - following people around craving attention.

My vet says he was feral but I don't know - I think at some point he was someone's pet.

Had a few challenges with him - biting for one which has stopped.  But he is the smartest, sweetest, most loving boy.  I've had cats all my life all of whom I have loved so much but he is really special.  So glad I found him.

Continued luck with your precious boy.
