FIREWORKS Leave your dog at home PLEASE

And it's started.  Poor dog.  First shell went off and a few moments later there goes a poor little dog running down the sidewalk leash scraping along,  hitting her heels, with the most Panic stricken look on her face as the bombs continued to burst in air.  Gone in a flash, all I could do was yell to the people further down the street to track the dog. No one could catch it but at least the couple who came running after it a minute later had a clue where to go to follow her.  That dog was out of it's mind frightened.  I can only hope she did not run out into the cross streets and get hit.  PLEASE don't take your dog to the fireworks.  IT'S NOT FUN FOR THEM.

I would add:   Stay at home and take care of your frightened pet.

Surely you're not having a formal fireworks display this early.  So how do you predict when some idiot is going to decide that he should set off some fireworks tonnight while you're walking your dog?  Surely you don't expect people to quit walking their dogs until August?  Seems like a sensible solution would be to hold him firmly and get him home ASAP if fireworks start.

@Desertdi Memorial Day they had fire works at this park especially made for dogs called " Bark Park' and a dog died at the festivities. I couln't believe that they would have such a foolish thing. Also I am so sick going into a Pet Store where dogs are allowed to come with their owners. First off the smell is so bad, and no one knows what a dog could do there, bite people , get sick from other dogs Just silly of them to allow this.

@Kachina624  surely you should look up fireworks Somerville Ma.  I suspect they are riding the wave of publicity for the new Encore casino that opened this week the next town over, But I DID NOT MAKE THIS UP.   Thank you for your trust.

@candys mine.  It's not a matter of trust; it's a matter of common sense.  Fourth of July Fireworks in June?  Sorry, never heard of Somerville, Ma.

My uncaring neighbor (in our development) sets off fireworks any Saturday 10-10:30pm "just because."   My two elderly dogs are unnerved until it's over.  There is no noise ordinances where I live ... and in a rural area with lots of wildlife that enjoys our yard as a sanctuary ...  below is what I fear for their "young":

Several years ago, my city rescheduled the fireworks display to the Saturday before July 4th.  So, this year, it's tomorrow, June 29th.  It can be July 1st, 2nd or 3rd, but not the 4th, so it is often in June.  They did this so they do not have the added expense of holiday pay for the police and other city staff.  The victim of tightening city budgets.

There are no longer any community celebrations in my area on the 4th.  Even my neighborhood picnic was moved to the third Saturday in July a few years ago.  So, if you don't have a Fourth of July party planned with family and/or friends, it doesn't even feel like a holiday.

Re: FIREWORKS Leave your dog at home PLEASE

My dog is 12 now and hard ot hearing but she used to be afraid of fireworks and thunder.  About 5 years ago my brother found a stray dog on July 5th on the freeway on-ramp and stopped to get her.  We figure it was fireworks on the 4th that caused her to escape.  He wound up adopting her and she has been such a sweetheart and loves his other dog.  Keep your pets inside and safe this holiday.

Hi Candy'sMine - You are 100% correct...it's common sense 101 - your pet is YOUR responsibility, treat it with love, kindness and respect - PROTECT it from harm and feed it clean food. Love it to kibbles n bits and never be negligent.

My pets are WELL cared for, protected and loved so much it's almost overwhelming.
