WKRN) - The FDA is alerting pet owners and veterinary professionals about several recalls in dry dog foods.
The FDA has recalled nine dry dog food brands after receiving complaints that the dogs consuming these brands experienced vitamin D toxicity.
Experts say symptoms to look for in your pet include drooling, vomiting, lethargy and loss of appetite.
Consuming foods with toxic levels of vitamin D can even lead to kidney failure or other life-threatening side effects, veterinary professionals say.
Veterinary professionals recommend looking for an AAFCO label on the side of pet food bags, like Purina has, when choosing a brand to feed your pet.
This label guarantees that there has been a feeding trial which guarantees that the food is safe for your pet's consumption.
The following dog food brands are a list taken directly from the FDA of items affected by the recall:

Thank you for posting this important information. I feed my fur babies Earthborn pet food. I’ve yet to see a recall on this product.

I wonder why dog foods keep having the problem with excess vitamin D? You would think they'd routinely check it since it seems to be an on-going problem. Wonder where it comes from?

Thanks for that information. Glad my dog's food wasn't on the list.

Thank you so much for the information...I just changed my little one's food due to his age and nutrition requirements...glad the new food is not on the list!

Thank you, so much O/P for the detailed information about these dry dog foods. I have four senior dogs that I have saved and adopted. And thank goodness none of these brands do I feed my dogs. I will spread the news to others who have dogs. I am signed up to get emails on dog and cat brands that are on the recall list but, so far have not heard about this. Again thank you! Have a nice day!

@Kachina624 This is from the NPR website:
The dog foods all come from a single as-yet-unnamed manufacturer and are marketed under at least eight brand names including Abound, Orlando and Natural Life, sold at Kroger, Lidl and other retailers, the FDA said.
You can see the full list of the recalled products on the FDA's website.
So, it appears that the one manufacturer who makes many different brands of dog food added too much Vitamin D to the formulations..... for some reason the name of the manufacturer is impossible to find. I have searched and googled but it seems to be a secret.... probably as many lawsuits will be filed is my guess....
